The Eye Stupid Rotk premier!!

I just read in the newspaper today (VG, a norwegian one) and there was a big headline that read: Lord of The Rings threatened by boycott! Futher down it said the the world premier in Oslo's Colossuem which is going to be on the 15th of December has just come out with the ticket prices: 515 kr!!! Which is well over 60 dollars! Anyone think that's just a little over the top?? I was planning sleeping out to get tickets but now I don't know if I can afford it! They said that part of the money would go to Amnesty International but they refused to tell how much... just that it was over the minimum of 9%! Anyone agree with me on this? We should at least know how much is going to help people! It's just stupid. I guess I'll wait till the 17th and get normal tickets in my home town. Or should I just spend my money? Is it worth it?? What do you guys think?

If the ticket price is a reflection of sheer greed from someone, I'd be tempted to wait for sure - & that is a lot of money! You can get one of the Extended version DVD's for that amount...<P>Allow me to say hi to a fellow Scandinavian

That is actually about the same price per ticket as last year's charity premiere of TTT here in Seattle Washington. Actually they also had another ticket that came with a meal and party after that costed about 250 dollars. But on the bright side the 60 dollar ticket came with a goodie bag, and you also got to see the film 3 days before everyone else (Oh, and John Rhyes-Daves also attended)

Obviously it's going to cost a bit more than usual, yes it's a bit over-priced (I think), but I don't think it's anything to do with greed.

And some games too, like baseball and football. Isn't the movie going to be about as long as any of those? <P><B>Frodo Lives!</B> <I>Revive the slogan!</I>

Think yourself lucky that you can even buy tickets to the world premiere! As far as I know the closest most people get to being at the premiere of films, especially something as major as RotK, is standing behind barriers dressed up as Elves or hobbits or whatever waving banners and screaming, "Orlando!" or "Elijah!" or "(insert cast member of choice here)!"<P>Yeah it's a lot of money, but think of it like this: you'll get to see the film first, you'll probably get goodies, some of that money's going to charity, you might get to meet (or at least see) the actors, and it'll be something to tell your grandchildren.

I strongly agree with Aireruthiel. It would be awesome to go to the world premire, even if it is that expensive.<P>Burzdol

I live in Peterborough, Ontario, Canada. In the fall before Fellowship was released, a brilliant local boy was dieing of a rare form of childhood lukemia and was a huge Lord of the Rings fan. It was worried that he wouldn't be able to make it to the premier date. His father wrote Peter Jackson and New Line and they agreed to show Fellowship more than a week before it's world-wide premier in Peterborough for James, his family and about 100 guests. James died a few weeks later.<P>Last fall they again showed Two Towers more than a week early, charging $100 a ticket with the money going to fight the disease. I've yet to hear if the same thing is happening this year, but I assume it is.<P>H.C.<p>[ August 25, 2003: Message edited by: HCIsland ]

That was a really nice thing for New Line Cinema to do. <P>After thinking about it I have come to the conclusion that I will wait those two whole days for the movie to come to Drammen (that's where I live) even if the money goes to help a good cause I still don't see the point in standing in a line for 3 weeks to get tickets when you only have to wait over night to buy them here (maybe longer... depends on how sure you want to be that you'll be first in line) of course you don't stand in line for 3 weeks ... we have a Hobbit camp where you put up your tent and there are games and cool stuff, but I think I'll just visit it on the weekends in stead. I have to think about school as well.
