Hollywood is a video rental store, so the company probably just got their shipment of TTT DVDs. They have to get the DVDs plenty ahead of time so they can have them ready to rent by the time the store opens on the 26th. Gandalf Jr. probably just saw them tucked away in box somewhere as it is not legal for them to rent out the DVD prior to the release date.

Oooh, that would have been very tempting indeed!! I would have probably had to leave the store right away so I didn't just grab one and run...
Only 9 more days for me to wait here in the States!! But still, that is way too long.
[ August 17, 2003: Message edited by: Goldberry ]

Oy! They should not torment you (and other fans, for that matter) like that!
Why is it always the closer something gets, the longer the wait seems? I'm very anxious for the 26th to get here. My mom said if I get my driver's license (I'm 19, don't ask ) I can go to Walmart at midnight and get a glowing Ring necklace that they're giving away But alas, our car broke down. If it's not fixed by then I don't know what I'll do!

I remember last year on theOneRing.net that there were people writing in that they had gotten the FOTR DVD early, some by accident (shop people who had "accidently" put it out early by mistake). There was even one person who went on a "quest" to find a place where he could get it before the official sales date. So they are out there. But maybe because this is such a desirable DVD the shop people are being more careful this year.

Can't. contain. self. must. own. TWO TOWERS!!! I really can't wait for the extended edition more than anything. But I definitely won't have the patience to wait for it so i'll end up owning both versions of all three movies, as i already have two versoins of FotR...

Yeah, personally I think that owning multiple copies will end up being very good for me when I move and go out on my own. All the theatrical versions will stay with my sister at home, and I will take all the extended versions with me. Hey, I may just end up taking them all. But on to the subject matter...
Does anyone think that there is less anticipation for the TTT DVD then there was for FOTR? I remember being extremely excited about it last year. I actually went to Target very early in the morning to purchase it (I was worried that they would not have any), but this year I am much more relaxed and I know I will eventually get it.
Is anyone else like me, or am I the only one?
I think it is because, I don't know, we know how everything it going to go because we have been through this before.
Any thoughts?

I'm getting the theatrical versions as they're released and I'll get the EE when the set comes out, which I'm sure it will. While it is VERY tempting to pick up the FotR EE right now, I think it'll be better to wait till after they're all out, that way it'll be like seeing the movies for the first time again due to all the extra material

Well! My fellow Barrow-Downers have I got news for you!
I went out shopping today (to buy a box of tea bags to be exact) and I was pushing my shopping trolley around the shop when I saw a display of LoTR videos.
I thought they were The Fellowship videos out on display, but when I got closer I noticed they were "The Two Towers". I picked the video box up and stared at it! I thought to myself, there is probably a sign somewhere saying 'cannot be purchased until 26th August', but there was no sign to be seen! So sheepishly I put the box cover in my trolley and went to the check out to pay for my goods. The lady on the till swipped the price through and called for an assistant to go and get the film.
I said to her "I didn't think they were on sale until 26 August, that's what all the advertisements say elsewhere". She replied, "We can sell them now and you get a choice of a free book to go with it".
So folks, not only have I got "The Two Towers" video before the advertised date, and quite legally too, but I also got a companion book to go with it.
So if there any Barrow-Downer's reading this who are in the UK, nip on down to your local Morrison's store, cos you will find it (and this includes the DVD) already on sale!
Oh by the way! I have already watched it and it is just as good as when I went to see it at the cinema!

Darn it! No Morrisons near me. So no free book and no exclusive video. But I will be at Blockbusters bright and early on the 26th! Or maybe I'll order it from the internet. Did anyone else get a TTT a-go-go envelope from Blockbusters? I said to my mum 'it's a sign. You must buy it for me'.

I got it today! Four whole days early One shop in town released it early, as they were all set up for the big day, and then every other shop did the same. It was so cool! Only I didn't have my card with me to draw out my money, so I got to the shop, then had to go all the way back home, then back into town, then I realised I had gone to the shop without drawing out my money, so I had to go all the way to the cashpoint, then back to the shop. Good exercise Now i know how Gimli felt, running across the plains.

You lucky people! I was in Walmart today and saw a guy walking around with a DVD, all I saw was the "Lord of the Rings" title on it and thought "heh, nice to see fans..." Then I had to do a double take, FotR doesn't have a red box! I realized he was an employee and gleefully setting up all the display TV's to play TTT. I must have danced around like I had ants in my pants, went and got my nephew and we watched for a while. He wanted to watch till it got to the Dead Marshes, then he was ready to go. You shoulda seen the people walking by and lots stopping to look for a while! Someone asked me if it was TTT then excitedly told his girlfriend that the third one is coming in December. All she could do was ask why the orcs looked like beasts. "Because they are" LOL. Another lady even asked the salesguy if she could have the one playing, aww, who can blame her!
I decided not to drag myself out at midnight monday, the people there said the free Ring necklackes are "Just a teeny battery operated Ring and they're already dead!" My Mom wants me to wait for the EE but AHHH I dunno if I can do it

You lucky people! I bet I could find it if I looked... *wishful thinking* I have to go shopping now. I have to get it before I leave on vacation, or else I won't be able to watch it until I get back... Hmmm... If I brought my Playstation 2 with me, I could plug it into the TV in the hotel room...

Unfortunately, early releases won't do any good for me. I'm doing the same exact thing as I did last year. I will rent TTT when it comes out and watch it several times, then wait as patiently as humanly possible for the extended version. Though, I might have to wait to rent it on the weekend since school starts Monday.
I don't buy the theatrical versions because I realize that once the EE comes out, I won't watch the DVD again (and I'm low on money as it is). Last year, my friend bought the theatrical version, then later regretted it after watching the EE. The waiting for the EE can be difficult, especially when you're lacking the theatrical version, but hey! It's possible.
Am I the only one who has made the decision to wait?

Tuesday seems soooooooooo far away!!! I'm so jealous of all you lucky people who actually got TTT early!! Dang it! I have TTT reserved for me at Media Play and that's good enough for me... for now. Of course when the Extended version comes out I'll probably never watch the Theatrical version again but still... you just have to own it! The more LotR DVDs the 'merry'-er! (couldn't help it)

Being in gainful employment, and my mother being a pensioner, I buy them myself.
But I buy the theatrical version because:
1. I don't own a DVD player, and
2. I don't fancy watching a wide screen video on a normal size TV screen!
One day, when I get a DVD player, I will then buy the Extended DVDs, cos my video versions will be worn out by then anyway!
Just as a matter of interest, and I know that this is probably not the right place to ask this, but has anybody else noticed that when "Gandalf the White" is going to see Theoden in Rohan, in the close up scenes he is linking Legolas, and then in the long shots he isn't, and then it goes back to the close ups where he is linking him again!!!

I would wait for the extended version, but I like to have both versions so I can see the differences. I want to be able to watch what I saw in the cinemas, then in November compare the two and see which lines have been added, etc.

The anticipation is a bit lesser than it was for the fotr. I thought it was just me. I think, yes, maybe it's just cuz we're getting used to the pattern. I think i also dread for the LOTR movies to be over. And the release of the ttt is a sign that it's getting closer to that. Just like the anticipation for the last film to come out.
Also, i remember being a little bit disapointed with the fotr release last year. Not enuf special features for my taste, and after watching it 10 times on a movie screen, the home version seemed kinda tiny and less eye dazzling.

I still can't understand why the radio adverts are still all saying that it is not released until 26 August, when (courtesy of Blockbusters) I've already had the DVD on pride of place on my shelf for 2 days (the film and all special features having of course duly been watched).
Needless to say, that won't stop me getting the Extended Edition, but at least I'll only have 2 version. I had to get FotR on video at first, not having had a DVD player at the time.
