Sting Most breath-taking shot

What do you think was the most remarkable and mind-blowing shot in FOTR or TTT?
I think it was the shot in TTT were Sauruman is looking down at the battle of the Ents. On the big screen it just looks so big and real.

There were so many! The visuals are glorious, and the best things about the movies! I need to own the DVD to appreciate all the beautiful shots, but I can say one that excites me is when Aragorn steps out and hails the Riders of Rohan. The way all the horses turn in unison and come back to the three fellowship members is a breath catcher for me.

the bit where the Rohirrim ride down the hill with Gandalf at Helms Deep. One of the most magical and breathtaking moments ever.

Breath-taking as in gorgeous/amazing or breath-taking as in tear-jerking-find-the-tissues-bring-on-the-hershey-bars shot? Because I've got some for both! As for the breath-taking/amazing shot, I honestly have to say when Gandalf is on the crest of the hill at Helm's Deep and then Eomer and his troops come up and then they ride down and kick some orc-butt, Rider-style. As for the breath-taking/tear-jerking shot, I'm quite partial to the scene where Legolas gives Arwen's pendant back to Aragorn. It's so sweet.

The small glimpse of Minas Tirith in FotR. Just that panning shot right there. *sighs*
Also the shot with the camera following the moth at the Orthanc in FotR was very beautiful, especially when it "falls" down into the pits below.
The panning shot of Helm's Deep in TTT was gorgeous, especially with the music in the background. Mmm.... *goes into a trance*

In FotR, near the Minas Tirith shot, when you see Ephel Dúath and Osgiliath, seemingly cowering on Anduin.
[ April 10, 2003: Message edited by: Manwe Sulimo ]

How about the shot of the dark army before it leaves to lay seige upon Helm's Deep?
That was just... wow. It was perfect.
Also, I really enjoyed the scene with Aragorn and Legolas when they are arguing about whether to fight or not and Aragorn momentarily lapses out of Elvish.
Scenes like that are not filmed/edited on any kind of grand scale. Yet they still possess that degree of emotional power that reminds you exactly why Jackson is such a fabulous director.
Think about it. It required neither special effects nor any special lighting, and yet that is when you first see Aragorn begin to accept his destiny. This turning point was shot in what could have been someone's basement full of props.
It was a scene of bravery, acceptance, courage, truth, and humanity. You rarely see this kind of acting in movies now.
Wow, that was such a pretentious sounding rant. Sorry, guys. But I do stand by it.

Breakth-taking to me is pretty much anything that I would see and I would start to cringe over it was so good. I had many of these times, but a few were...
FOTR:
1. When Gandalf falls into the darkness below Kazadum.
2. When they pan over the Anduin showing the wide river and woods surrounding it.
3. Although a peaceful time, when they first show Frodo sitting under the tree in the Shire. It was a good shot.
TTT:
1. When Frodo sees the faces in the Dead Marshes
2. When they go back and forth between the Orcs and the soldiers at Helm's Deep. {This is before the battle starts.}
3. When they show a far-away view of Frodo facing the Nazgul and Frodo is holding out the ring.
4. Aragorn & Legolas' argument
There are many more, but I will leave that to others to post. They'll probably say them sooner or later.

In The Fellowship of the Ring, when the Fellowship's in Moria gazing in wonder at the works of the Dwarves. The pillars made of stone and everything... it's amazing.

When Gandalf and the Rohirrim and rushing down the hill towards the Uruks, when it shows the Black Gate, the whole battle of Helm's Deep, all the shots of Rohan, when the flag rips off the post at Meduseld and flies onto the wisps of grass, the shots of Fangorn (it's so gorgeous).
Now for FotR. The shots of Hobbiton (again-very gorgeous), the Ford shots, Dwarrowdelf, when the Balrog is lumbering towards the Fellowship, when Gandalf falls, the falls of Rauros, the Argonath.
Where is the Minas Tirith shot?

The Minas Tirith shot is when Gandalf is riding to gain information about the ring. The Library he goes to is in Minas, at least in the movie.
Fav shots:
FoTR
Boromir's Death
Rivendell
The Ford of Bruinen
The Moth and Orthanc
The Falls of Rauros
TTT
Pretty much everything that has to do with Rohan!

A shot that always impressed me was in the battle scene on Amon Hen just after Aragorn hears Boromir's horn. The camera tracks with the running Aragorn for a sec but then it lifts up into trees and pans down following the orcs as they are running down the hill.
I always wondered how they did that shot because it couldn't have been a crane as it was obvious the camera was moving quickly through the tree canopy. PJ explains it in the director's commentary. The camera was on a long wire track that was rigged through the trees and operated by remote control.
Brilliant.
H.C.

My favourite breathtaking shot from FOTR was the opening action sequence in wideview.

In TTT the scene with the army at Isengard before it marches out is scarily breathtaking and my favourite of all is Theoden's speech before they ride out, it gives me that tickly sensation, even when I just read it. The words are perfect and the way he builds up as he goes.

My favorites are.....Oiy! thats hard I don't think I could. But one of the greatest reasons why PJ is such a good director is that he is able to take total ficticious places i.e. Argonath, Black Gate, Helms Deep, Casm of Khazad-dum, Meduseld, Rivendell, Lothlorien, well, he is able to make those places come Alive with the paning out and in shots and I just can't descibe how well he Portrayed the different scenes in LOTR.

Oh all of these are so wonderful. My favorites definitely have to be when Gandalf and the Riders of Rohan ride down into Helm's Deep (I cheered during that scene)
And another shot that I absolutely loved was the last scene in TTT, the very last one. Where the camera goes from Sam, Frodo & Gollum, over the mountians, and shows that very scary shot of Mordor (At that time I just thought to myself "they have to go there!") I love how at the end of both FOTR and TTT they show the journey that Sam and Frodo will have to make in the next movie with those wonderful panoramic shots. I think that is really cool.
Another one for me was when the camera starts at the bottom of the tower of Barad-Dur and goes all the way up to the spectacular shot of the eye of Sauron (I love how you see all the details of the tower, very, very cool)
And of course in FOTR when you get to see the entire fellowship, when they are walking through the rocks with the wonderful music, that one is great too.

They completed it very early as they new it would be very prominent in their early trailers. That shot is neet because it was all blue screen with each of the actors doing their passes seperately. You can never tell from looking at the finished shot though.
H.C.

It's the music and the mountains that make me tingle on that shot. The members are fine, except I wish Aragorn looked more....something, I don't know, he looks somewhat odd. The location is so wonderful!

Oh, there are soooo very many. I like the wide shot of Rivendell in FotR. It really shows the grandeur of the place. Also, the shot of Gandalf the White coming to Helms deep. I can't think of them all!
