Try to write poems on anything that has to do with ME or anything in it. Get the picture?
High of birth and gold of hair, He was a great noble with a kingly air, Born when the world was young, In Valinor before the sun. He came back to middle Earth, after Mandos gave the curse. Powerful in battle great beast he fell, His elvish name was Glorfindel. In gondolin he dwelt long, But there the king did a wrong. To leave he was warned before there was ill, The curse of Mandos was Fulfilled. He fought a balrog on the cliffs, To save those who evil would miss. Down with the Balrog he fell far, but the golden hair would not be marred. An Eagle broult back to them, They said goodbye once again. For his honor a mound was raised, By elves forever he shall be praised. Thats as good as I could do Now you guys try (if I could do that so can you!)

There once was a hobbit Who found a gold ring; Which was forged by Sauron, An evil king. He left it to Frodo, Instead of some cash; Who snuck into Mordor And burned it to ash. The entire 1000 page novel in two sentances.

"Strider: Tellin' it like it is..."
The slobs from Bree, they call me Strider My armpits stink, but I'm no Black Rider My girl is Arwen; she'll out-live me But she'll get no immortality At the Prancing Pony, a darn good inn I'd just sat back to drink my gin These four prance in and steal the show Foolish Hobbits, led by "Mr. Frodo" Frodo's got a Ring to rule them all Merry'll drink you out of Brandybuck Hall Sam's not too bright; he's kinda dull And poor Pippin's got no brain at all So I lead this rather ragged bunch To keep them from being Nazgûl lunch And though my job pretty much stinks I get some payment in free drinks He, he, he My brother helped me come up with this poem. And Gilmi, great job! Kudos to you. My poetry of Middle Earth is more somber. Quote:

Those are great, JOY! BTW, I really love your new pic!
This is the beginning of one that I came up with while writing music to accompany it: "Through darkest night I see the light I'm here with you You'll get me through We're far from home and We're far from friend But on we go To journey's end" There will be more later, I just need to think of it! Tigerlily, great poem. I can see Sam and Frodo walking through the Ephel Duath, catching each other when the stumble, helping each other up when they fall, Sam carrying Frodo up Mount Doom.
As you can tell, I really like your poem. BTW, thanks for the compliment on the poems and the new pic. Did you see the sword that the angel has? That was exactly the sword I had in mind for Kallasil - the sword of bright light - in my fan-fic. [ June 12, 2002: Message edited by: Joy ]

I think the parody of the Ring poem that I wrote is in my signature, but if not, here goes:
One Book to Rule them All Three books for the publishers under the guy, Seven for the zealists in their rooms alone, Nine for paying parents doomed to buy, In the land of Tolkien where the readers lie. One book to rule them all, one book to find them One book to bring them all and in the darkness bind them. In the land of Tolkien where the readers lie. The "one book to rule them all" thing was created by another poster on this site, and I made up the rest. Everyone else's are very good! I know mine wasn't exactly about ME but it's the only thing I've written so far. [ June 12, 2002: Message edited by: dragongirlG ] |

There are a lot of Replies for just one day on a topic like this.
Four little hobbits went out on a hike, The Strider fellow some didn't like. One wanted breakfast and then wanted lunch, But Strider said there will be no more brunch. After a walk they came to a hill, But there the Nazgul waited to kill. They wanted to save there dear friend Frodo, From a wound that would kill even a troll. At Imladris they found a lost old friend, Who thought that the hobbit journey would've been at an end. But Strider watch them with his eagle eye, Yet they now had another choice to live or to die. For the journey to mordors was all but easy, Which made Pippins legs get very very Quisy. They thought that they would die on this journey to the end, But now they relied on help and there friends. Okay this a little free-form poem I wrote just for the heck of it. It's set perhaps thirty years before FOTR.
Twilight comes the shadow is rising growing, consuming the dark mist that once shrouded the face of evil is clearing the world once known is fading the bright day comes to a close time, once a gently passing stream, now flows swiftly, inevitably yet the twin dooms, entertwined by the nature of the power possesed by few are held at bay mirth is not lost and courage strengthens twilight lingers and with it memories of times past the leaves fade the seasons change and time grows ever shorter yet mirth is not lost as the golden sun shines and the silver rains fall [ June 12, 2002: Message edited by: The-Elf-Herself ]

Here's a poem I wrote last semester for my english class. It is entitled "Of Telperion and Laurelin"
Thins golden rays flood o'er this land, And purest light doth fill mine hand. Oh golden tree of Valinor, Thy light shines out to farthest shore. And what is said of Laurelin? Her silver light outshineth tin. Thy soft and silent gentle hue, Doth shine against the sky so blue. Telperion and Laurelin, In Valinor thy light begin. It shineth pure and piercingly. It floweth forth quite readily. O golden tree of Valinor! O silver tree of farthest shore! Shine forth 'gainst midnight's darkest cloth, Assail the eyes of vile Morgoth. Oh soft white light of Laurelin, Although the darkness 'gainst thee win. Do not thy white light darkness trade! Forsake the darkness bid thee fade. And golden beam of Telperion, Ungoliant's venom 'gainst thee won. Do not fade O glorious tree! Take not from Valar all thy glee. O glorious trees of Valinor, Although the darkness 'gainst thee soar. Thou shalt live on in memory, Despite thy death in tradgedy. |

The Fellowship of the Ring
Nine were needed, to complete the quest, so Elrond chose seven, of the very best. ("two more we will need, I'll pick from my house." "But I want to go!" cried micky the mouse.)*not really* He planed for two elves, to complete the mission, but merry and pippin, wouldn't bend to submission Gandalf lead the group that would destroy the ring. Strider the ranger went along, he was the exiled king. Boromir went also, but his bane was near. Sam-the ringbearer's companion, was often filled with fear Gimli joined the company and proved the dwarve's worth. Legolas went for the elves-- a prince of noble birth Merry was a jokester, and pippin was his clone. Before the quest was over, they wished that they'd stayed home Frodo was the ringbearer, upon him all duties fell, on the edge of a knife was the quest. Up to this hobbit was all. These nine left Rivendell, on a day that wasn't so nice. do you think they'll destroy the ring? only this nine must suffice.

Here's how Aragorn proposed. Arwen, O Arwen, Beautiful art thine face. You hold a special place in my heart, None could take thine place. Will you marry me? I know, not exactly Tolkien related, but...

Fair Laurelindórinan where dwell the Galadhrim,
Ruled by Celeborn and Galadriel the fair, Fairest place of all Middle Earth. The golden wood, with Mallorn trees of silver, Shed their golden leaves in the fall, The sorceress of the wood keeps it safe, No evil shall ever pass its mithril gates. Galadriel’s ring of power shall ever protect it, Woe to all who bear evil within them, Fairest place of all where elves dwell, Untouched by the passing years. Haven of the first age of the sun, As immortal as those who live there, Has watched so many years go by, Only remnant of years long lost. With the elvish ring of water, Galadriel had cast a spell, Sauron could never see the land, And no evil would ever pass. Ruled by Sindar King, and Noldor Queen, Fairest place of all the land, Silent as the night, the invisible elves, Ever caring for the majestic trees. Silent as stone, as graceful as cats Are the watchers of the sacred land, The one who enters unsummoned, Struck by an arrow in an instant. The land called to you, using a voice of nature, To enter its mysterious depths, The beauty would entice you, Impossible to resist. Slowly it faded, still unwilling to change, Finally deserted by the fair folk of the wood, When Celeborn left the shores of Middle Earth, The magic finally dwindled and died. Past the gates of Khazad-Dûm, Dark Moria, lair of the Balrog, But Lothlórien was a haven of peace, No evil could ever dwell there. The Mallorn trees grew only there, Save one place, in the Shire, The silver trees were mountains, beautiful and tall, Coated ground in gold in the fall. Land of “The valley of the singing gold,” Was the lands’ fair name, Saw ages come, saw ages go, But now, it is forever lost I had to write a poem for school, and I chose Lothlorien. Hope you liked it |

Seriously, watch how you talk about my fave li'l hobbit! Anyways, I posted this some time ago after I wrote it, but since we're talking poems... ---------------------------------------------- The Gardener There he is on his knees long-fingered hands again in the soil. Sweat makes greying curls stick to his brow but for him, this is not toil. Daisies, primroses, many flowers surround him for him, to represent his little girls most are grown now, and have left home-- to seek their place in the world. The sun is setting and the gardener stands breathing the scented air still keen, yet sad eyes look toward the sea and a tear falls at the thought of the friend who left him there. The friend announced he would be leaving and then the gardener cried, "Please, master, take me with you! I must be by your side! " "No," his dear friend answered, smiling; "I know you're tried and true but this journey I must make alone it is not yet time for you. " As the sun disappears from the garden the gardener picks up his tools. Tears spill from his eyes and fall to the ground in pools. Yet, there's a smile on the gardener's face for he knows that one day he'll be by his friends' side again and then--neither of them would stray. In the halls of Middle Earth the mallorn leaves change thousand times again While year upon year Cirdans ships bear the firstborn to the haven to the Undying Lands O Eldar Heed the call of Ulmo Tarry no longer on the silver shores travel now to the land beyond the Sea! O Valinor Valinor Fairest of all lands! Would that I but once look upon Oilosse Or Lorien with its dreaming gardens To dream away all pain Always the sea calls, awakening the seed of desire And longing for what may be in Valinor Ah, the sea, the sea. Valinor waits beyond the sea But the exiles are not forgotten, though the waves and years part them from the homeland Varda smiles upon us granting grace where it was dared not hoped for Even the most eloquent cannot describe your beauty Grant us a way to your land, Snow white, that we may sing praises in your name A Elbereth Gilthoniel…

Remmirath, I loved your poem! Welcome to the Downs!!!!!
I loved everyone's poem, Gimli, yours were very amusing. I liked how you summed up that whole 1000 page book in just 2 sentences! I'm gonna post on this later anyway with my poems. I gotta make some more up, and I gotta remember what some were. I knew I made one up as soon as I finished reading LotR the first time, but stupid me didn't write it down!

Ah, I could not resist the call of poetry. Here is mine:
Rolling hills of peaceful ire, greenary doth reign in passive Shire, Land of Halflings of little known, where seeds of bravery were hence sown. In Hobbiton where Halflings dwell, A tale so great, it here fell, to little hands and little Ring, to feet so swift as Eagle's great wing. To one so Wise as to lead them all, Gandalf remained true to his call. Yet he fell in darkness, in mines so deep, to where the demon his lair did keep. To one so Small as to trust them all, Frodo climbed the steepest wall. Destroy the Ring, a mission sincere, To quell the strength of his own fear. To one so Great as to rule them all, to Aragorn, a past did call, to reclaim the throne of a Land unknown Ranger of Anor, the kingdom of old. To one so Loyal as to help them all, to Sam did the fated decision fall, yet heart stayed true and Seed was sown, To get his beloved Master home. Rolling hills of peaceful ire, greenary doth reign in passive Shire, Land of Halflings of little known, where seeds of bravery were hence sown. ----- S.Sangrey (Me!) So, what do you think? All of yours are great! Don't think mine was all that good for a fifteen minute job...but oh well!
