I would like to see what kind of movie products they come out with for all three or even the debut of Fellowship. I would like to get my hands on some of the products to hold and keep in a collection of sorts, as I'm hoping the movie will be very popular. I myself work in a movie theater and might be able to get posters and such which should be worth a lot but I would like to see what else they come out with to raise hype for the movie. - Not Idly Do The Leaves Of Lòrien Fall

Re: Movie Products Welcome to the board, Gandalfer. I believe that pictures of certain characters -- such as Gandalf, or the Nazgul -- will look very good and raise lots of attention for the movies. (un)happy meals poorly made, tacky, plastic Gandalf figures. Eek! And of course, such things never feature the interesting characters. Well, as long as they don't try and do a Sauron figure. That would really suck.

Re: Movie Products I'm not very happy with the movie idea to begin with,but the least they could do is try not to cheapen it by turning it into a cash cow. I don't really want to see action figures of the Nine Walkers and Mount Doom playsets. Why does it always have to come down to money?

Re: (un)happy meals Personally, I like the people chosen to play all of those parts. I think they'll do a good job. Of course it won't be what we imagined, but nothing ever is. Re: Movie Products Most of the characters are casted fairly well, but I still don't see how they're going to make a hobbit out of Elijah Wood. Yes, I've seen the pictures...I just don't get it. Elijah Wood and Hobbit do not go together in the same sentence. Oh, and how about an Action Figure Aragorn who does a Karate Chop at the press of a button? Heh heh... Or Denethor "Play and Burn" Pyre sets? MWA HA HA!

The smoking discussion got me thinking: Special Edition hobbit pipes. Bubble pipes designed like those in the movies. Oh, OK, for the purists and carcinogenics, real pipes, too. But I think that would be the ideal movie product. It would certainly be the closest the tobacco industry ever comes to making money off of me! The days are fated to be filled with marvels.

Re: Movie Products Commercialization is evil. Take Harry Potter. I like the books. I have nothing against the movie. But when I came home from the holidays, everywhere I turned there were HP figurines and games. Half the stuff my sister got for Christmas was HP-related. There's no escape! Fortunately, Tolkien, with an older, wiser foundation to support it, I think will be able to withstand a bit more before it becomes...tawdry? I dunno. Unfortunately, that probably means they'll feel safer to pile more on... The days are fated to be filled with marvels.

Crappy toys A toy company will jump and make crapy toys for kids and that sort of thing like Star wars and degrade the books even more. A fast food giant will proberbly buy the rights to put them in their childrens menu and that would be bad for the books beond measure. But then this whole movie thing is going to be crap so I think the books will be more read but less thought about because Peter whatshisface's interpretation will be in everyones head.

Boy, you guys are such sticks in the mud. What is it like at your house, dictionaries and flash cards for Christmas and a celery stick for dessert? Didn't any of you play with Star Wars action figures? Did those action figures totally spoil the integrity of the Star Wars movies? Geez, LotR is a great work of literature -- I wouldn't be here in the first place if I didn't think it was -- but it's also a great adventure story and exactly the kind of thing that will fire the imagination of children (it did mine!). I used to buy LotR roleplaying game books and action figures, does that mean I somehow disrespected the prof?

So a few people will make a few bucks off of action figures, so what? Get over it. If they're cool, I'll buy some myself!

They could be cool I'll buy what I can get but I'd really rather have posters and pictures then toys. I went looking online for some LotR toys and what I found was disturbing. A very fat happy-go-lucky Frodo doll smiling so wide I thought his face would brake, compleate with pack-o-grear and lorien cloak. An equily discusting Sam, and nazgul who's face you could see. It was sad.
