Frodo's Original name
Did you know that the name Tolkien originally thought of for Frodo was
'Bingo-Bolger Baggins'!! But then as the story became more serious he changed it to Frodo which was the name he had originally given to one of his travelling companions. He got the name Frodo from some Iclandic king in Beowolf who was called Frodi [ November 19, 2002: Message edited by: busybee ]

Just look in HoME Return of the Shadow for JRRT's earlier ideas about Hobbits and the Shire.

Trotter! That sounds way to funny for someone as serious as Aragorn...i mean trotter....makes him sound like a pig.
Actually i got it in The Magical Worlds of Lord of the Rings. It also has other fascinating factoids such as this so go buy it at a bookstore near you! Should i put some more in another thread or just here?

Do not forget that, in Westron, Frodo's name is actually Froda and Bilbo's name Bilba. Masculine names end in an "a".

Froda in Welsh or either Icelandic meant Wise, Learned.

Merry was Marmaduke, and pippin was Vigo, which I think of as very weird.

Funnier yet, Trotter's real name was Peregrin (Perry for short) and he wore wooden shoes to hide his mutilated feet!!
Pippin went through many names before he became Pippin (and thanks BOB for that!!) Heh. maybe I'll check how the names come out in Hebrew...
