Now, for something completely different...

Posts: 94</TD><TD></TD></TR></TABLE> A quick review of my more recent posts reveals an uncharacteristically dark trend. Hmmmm, the death of elves, the Second Prophecy of Mandos, the Final Battle. Time to lighten up. OK. How did Gimli keep up with Aragorn and Legolas through their run over the fields of Rohan? His short little legs must have been pumping furiously. Maybe, as a gift from Aule, dwarves can invoke the power of the Roadrunner.<img src=wink.gif ALT=""> </p>

I guess that means they can move along fast enough to keep up with a Man. I'm willing to bet that Legolas could run faster than either Aragorn or Gimli, and he was holding back to stay with his companions. Or perhaps Aragorn was also not running as fast as he could. What's a burrahobbit got to do with my pocket, anyways?</p>

Oh no, now we are going to have numerous threads with endless discussions on whether dwarves had wings!!!

Nah, it was a rope and roller skates. Aragorn was actually towing Gimli through most of the chase, but the highly focused Ranger little noticed the extra weight, so intent was he on following the trail.
(By this time the friendship between Elf and Dwarf had been firmly established, and Legolas was no squealer.) |

It is a little-known fact that inline-skating was discovered and adopted as a national past-time by the Dwarves.

I hate to break out of the silly atmosphere but I have a friend thats a foot and a half shorter than me. One day we raced and,She beat me. This has happened again and again not only with her butalso with several other friends shorter than me. Its like this if you match a tall person with one slightly shorter bet on the tall. But if one person is considerably shorter than the other, the shorter will usualy win.
This seems really bizarre to me I mean taller=longer legs=faster right? but once you get to a certain shortness such rules seem to become obsolete Maybe gravity and drag dont effect you as much if your shorter.

maybe gimli could keep up because, somehow, he was more aerodynamic than the other two?

hm... well, I think Legolas would be more aerodynamic actually, him being thinner and all. But maybe it was downhill, and Gimli just rolled?

Well, if you're shorter that means you're usually lighter..., but I kind of doubt gimli was all that light!

LOL! Roll down the hill. Ha ha, that's hilarious.
Anyway...if you notice, dwarves arn't very fond of riding horses so maybe because they always have to use their feet they developed a way to keep up with others. Then again perhaps he was carried.

aaaaaah..... a silly thread involving the height and stature of dwarfs, not as "something completely different" as you might think. Though I think that Gimli could not have been slower than any of the others for the simple reason that he probably wouldn't have been sent on the quest if he could not "keep up" with the elf and men. And on another note- WHO EVER HEARD OF CARRYING A DWARF!!!!!
It's simply outrageous!! P.S- Gimli rules!!

Maybe Gimli was an African Dwarf. But African Dwarves don't migrate. Damn. I'm stumped. Humph.
Seriously, I ran track and cross country, and the darned short people were always ahead of yours truly. [ June 24, 2002: Message edited by: Lush ]

He rode his bike, until he got a flat just outside Rohan and was forced to abandon it, having left his repair kit in the boats.

In my personal experience, being short is an aid to running. Usually, compared to taller people, you have less weight to lug along, and all the short people I know (including myself) can run for long periods of time, albeit slightly slowly. Tall people tend to run in "bursts" of speed, from what I've seen. The same thing could be the case for Aragorn, Legolas, and Gimli. Endurance is certainly more important than speed in their case.

I was once told that when WALKING, having short legs made some difference--so in a timed program, we who were under 5'2" got an extra 1.5 mins handicap. Once you began to run, though, it made no particular difference, supposedly. And having some extra body fat also was an advantage for long-distance running. (NOT that it has proven so in my case, LOL)
