So, B-W, is this to remind us just how much time we've wasted at your site?

Well, you Americans do know about time zones, right? The Barrow-Downs clock is a service for all of our international members, so that they can compare their time to the official site posting times.

Oh, it's a clock! See, I logged on at midnight last night, and the thing was reading 0:05, 0:06, etc. - so I thought it was a timer to show how long you'd been at the Downs.

Boy, is my face red. Dang military time!

There was a clock? Why don't you people tell me these things?

And I only come online for at most three hours at a time in total anyway, just to stick to the topic.

When I was on it just said "Barrow Downs Time" in bold green letters and thats it. I didn't see anything resembling a clock.

As an interesting side-note, ever since I joined the Downs, I was sure there must be a clock somewhere displaying the time. I was always looking for it. Then an actual clock showed up and I had to face the fact that I'd been searching for months for something that didn't exist!

The clock is apparently up again. Just so you know, Mr. Barrow-Wight: it is working perfectly over here. It has the exact same time my New York, Eastern Standard Time clock has on my computer. Just so you know that your hard work payed off!

When I'm comparing the clock to the time on a post I put up a moment ago, (and knowing that it SHOULD be 6 hours behind my time, not 9 as it is now) the clock is 3 hours behind what it should be....

In other words, to me it shows West coast time.

Well, it fits perfectly now. The clock shows 20.03 and my own is 2.03AM, so that makes me six hours ahead which is the way it should be.

EDIT: But the time shown on top of the post is 4 minutes ahead...

Ah I just worked it out!
It is using your own computers time and converting it to the downs time, my computers date is set to Dec 02 9:39 so the downs time says it is still 29-Dec-02 6:06
So if you change your computers settings the time should change as well.

The clock on the Downs doesn't change for me, it just stays five hours behind. I guess it's just East Coast and I'm GMT.

It would be quite cool if it was a timer, though! Although it would become a rather large number for me...

I think the Barrow-Wight needs to work on it a bit, because it says:

True, it is 12:33pm for me, but January 19?!?!?

Guys, I can't resist teasing you here, but which do we think is worse? Talking about the weather or talking about the time? I have this vision of wonderfully tedious conversations at the bus stop.

"Such a wonderful time of day we're having.."

"Yes. 9:05."

"Really? It's 9:06 by my watch."

"No kidding?" Long awkward pause. "So. What's that in military time do you think?"

The time here is quite mild, Maril: it's just coming up to half-past one in the afternoon, which I've always thought to be one of the most clement times of day. I hope that the hour is favourable where you are.

33 replies! Ay caramba!

I requested that Wighty put up a clock, so that we could tell how long ago posts were made on each thread. Unless you are in the same timezone that the Barrow Downs is, the times stated on posts are confusing and become kind of irrelevant.

Also I wanted to point out the inherent superiority I derive from being 18 hours ahead of the Downs. BWA HA HA HAAA!!! Anyone want me to tell them what's going to happen today?

The clock is a good thing,

If it is not correct with your time then tough luck. it is 6 hours behind on mine but I don't mind. It gives me some Math practise and that is good for a person. I was looking for that clock too a while ago Susan.

It is somewhat strange that the clock runs on Eastern Standard Time. I mean, being from New York, I love it, because I don't have to remember how many hours in which direction I have to count to reach the correct time (not counting that I have the time in the lower right-hand corner of my computer, but that's not the point), but one would think it would be on GMT(the "Real Time")...

Quote:

That would actually be really helpful if you could do that, Wighty. Then we'd know if we were on when last the thread was posted on.
