Locations
I don't know if this has been done before in the quiz room but the idea is that the challenge extender takes a small discription of a location in any of Tolkiens books(be it a house, a city or whatever) and the challenger has to name it.
To begin "They were in a long low room, filled with the light of lamps swinging from the beams of the roof; and on the table of dark polished wood stood many candles, tall and yellow, burning brightly."

I think this is a great idea for a thread... lets bring it back to life...
By the way i hope you all dont mind me bringing threads 'back from the dead' as it were. It just seems that only the top few threads seem to have much action. My theory is that with more balls rolling though the more involving it is for everyone... If you think I should stop doing this just let me know

Hope it's OK if I just jump in with a place. I love this idea for a thread.
"It was lit by deep windows in the wide aisles at either side, beyond the rows of tall pillars that upheld the roof. Monoliths of black marble, they rose to great capitals carved in many strange figures of beasts and leaves; and far above in shadow the wide vaulting gleamed with dull gold, inset with flowing traceries of many colours. No hangings nor storied webs, nor any things of woven stuff or of wood, were to be seen in that long solemn hall; but between the pillars there stood a silent company of tall images graven in cold stone." That last sentence is a dead giveaway... |

Meduseld?
And I´ve got a question about this thread: Does it have to be the exactly quote when you discribe the place or can you say it in your own words (in case you don´t have a copy of the original books)?

Nope, not Meduseld, but close...
I didn't start the thread, but it's fine with me if you just let one fly from the top of your head. I'll take a stab. |
