The fellowship of the ring was attacked by wargs in Hollin; orcs were all over the books; in Moria, the were attacked by the balrog; and the dragon Smaug was in the Hobbit. </p>

Feanor and Fingon were slain by Gothmog, which was a Balrog death. Fingolfin was slain by Morgoth himself, and Finrod was slain by a werewolf. Celebrimbor and Gil-Galad were slain by Sauron, and the rest is vague, but probably meant to be slain by orcs. That means the most frequent cause of death is orcs. </p>
