<font color=white> <~~ As my name would suggest my favourite is Varda. Dunno why, but she's Queen of the Stars and I like stars.

Ulmo. The vala who concerns himself most with ME and is active. Often is his help needed, e.g. Gondolin, Nargothrond, Tuor and so on.

Ooooh, yes I'd have to agree. Ulmo all the way; he didn't desert Middle Earth with the other Valar.

I find Manwë the most fascinating. Observe the flaws within the concept of perfection. The most interesting facet I find to be his lack of comprehension of evil. As Eru's "main instrument" in the Second Theme, or the Creation of Elves, and the King of Arda he is clearly the mightiest, save Melkor, yet is a strangely subdued character.
Yet I found also Nienna and Mandos to be strong images. I have a sneaking admiration for all of them in truth but some pique my interest more so than others.

The more I read and understand Silm and HomMe, the more I admire Ulmo! I love that he didn't desert Middle-earth. There are even subtle instances of his presence in the middle of Mordor when the light lifts a bit and the exhausted Frodo and Sam stumble upon a trickle of water.

I would have to agree with Varda. Cause I really like Varda. But I also like Ulmo and Oromë. I don't really know why. I just always did.

I think my favorite would be Varda. I love the stars and she is the Valar that the elves love the most.

Morgoth? *ahem* to creepy for me...
Well, my favourite ought to be Ulmo, since he never left ME and so on, but I also like Námo (aka Mandos) and Irmo (aka Lorien). Especially Mandos fascinates me..... Ok, I love all of them! So?

I haven't finished the Sil, but these are my favs so far:
1. Varda- I am yet another admirer of the stars 2. Irmo- Visions and dreams: something I need in order to live 3. Este- She is a healer. How could someone not like a healer?

Ulmo, Lord of the Seas -
Middle-earth and its creatures has always been dear to him. During the First Age, he kept watch on Men and Elves when all the other Valar stayed in Valinor. He brought Tuor to Gondolin, resulting ultimately in the fall of Morgoth in the War of Wrath.

I love all the Valar because they're all great in different ways. Most of all though I guess I like Yavanna because she created the Trees of Valinor with Nienna, Vana because flowers spring when she passes and also Tulkas because he laughs all the time!

Nessa! Because she reminds me slightly of me, dancing about and naturey things etc., if a Valar could be anything like a poor foolish mortal like me.

My fav out of all of them would be Ulmo for the mere reason that he didnt desert US in OUR time of need and for the need of the People....but the lady Varda (known to me as Elbereth) is my favorite....the beauty of the stars and the reverence all the elves held for her is what captivates me the most

Greetings and solutions, Darkscale! Welcome to the Land of the, er, Site of the dead!(as we call it) Enjoy!
For some odd reason, I've always liked Aule, I don't know why, but I do. And I think Yavanna is my fav. female Vala. And I have a deep respect for Ulmo & Mandos.(Why does that remind me of quote "I have a respect for beer!"?) You know what someone should do? Someone should comeup with a Valar Personality test! That would be interesting. Okay, I'll shut up now, ~M

I like Manwe and Varda because they are the head Gods and Manwe is very understanding with the Elves and Humans. I also like Yavanna because she made all living things like plants and that.

Of the boys...*jumps on the bandwagon* Ulmo!

I´ve already said Ulmo is my fave, but I have to say that I am quite fond of Manwë, Varda, Yavanna and Melkor too, Melkor especially. Manwë, Varda and Yavanna because of the reasons already mentioned by others, and Melkor because..er, well, I am drawn to evil guys. I think he is fascinating in a way. (Do I need to say that Sauron is one of my faves in LOTR?)

Well, actually I think evil guys are fascinating as well.. But they scare me to much at night to be my favourites.. I mean, once I didn't fall asleep untill after 2 am, just because I lay awake thinking about Gollum.. so well.. I'm easy to scare..
Well, as I mentioned above, Mandos (aka Námo) is one of my favourites. I think that is because he takes care of the elves that have been killed (and in the chat I've been to the halls of mandos dozens of times by now.. ).. and he is the judge.. well, what can I say..? He is fascinating.. <font color="gold">This is my 400th post! Go me! [ July 28, 2002: Message edited by: Gayahithwen ]

mystra...You poor, misguided soul.
Check out the Encyclopedia of Arda. Click here. Or better yet, read the Silmarillion. My favourites are Ulmo, Mandos, and Manwe. Ulmo for his benevolence, Mandos for his wisdom and the whole doomsman gimmick, and Manwe for his committment to Eru's direction. [ July 29, 2002: Message edited by: Legalos ]

I would say that I most favor is Tulkas. He is a warrior, as is Oromë, but Tulkas has a joyous nature. He is ever laughing. I think that even in battle, one must have a ligth heart. This can even cause confusion in the camp of the enemy.

I love them all too, but I always liked Elbereth (Varda, Varda Elentari, whatever you would like to call her ). I also love the stars, and being Queen of the Stars is pretty cool! I also like Nienna. I can relate to her. Ok, well not COMEPLETELY, but I kind of do. And I also like Ulmo because he didn't desert the people of Middle-earth. And I like Yavanna because she made ents and she's very....in touch with nature? I didn't know how to put that. But you basically know what I mean Oh, and Manwe too. I love wind.
So it's: 1. Varda Elentari 2. Yavanna 3. Nienna 4. Manwe 5. Ulmo

Frankly speaking, I don't think much of the Valar. They aren't as omnipotent and all-knowing as they should be. My favourite one? Probably Melkor. You know, evil can be fascinating, and he seems to know what he is doing. And I guess Aule, for he has created the cute race of dwarves.
