So I will give a couple from each class of being, or what ever you call it. Hobbits- Sam Humans- Tuor, Turin, Aragorn, and Beorn Dwarves- well, I don't really have a favorite dwarve, I like almost all of them Elves- Finrod, Celebrimbor, Cirdan, and Eol Maiar- Sauron and Gandalf Valar- Orome, Aule, and Ulmo Others- Gluarung, Gollum, Bombadil, and Carcharoth I guess it is just a list of the people I think are the coolest or just have the neatest lives
|

Hobbits generally annoyed me, and elves, especially the high ranking ones, often struck me as a bit too arrogant and pompous, so I generally became interested in only the dwarves and men. I'm not so sure he was my absolute favorite cuz I really don't have one, but he did have the most profounfd effect on me. First of all, I really did think he died in Moria, and it was a big deal when he came back, second, he is the only one to have a huge role in all three books of LotR AND the Hobbit. Plus, there is just something about the wizzard, I don't know what, but I think I've always held him in a kind of awe. Dreamer
|

Turin probably because he simple beat *** , nothing more to him. His story is great simply because all he did was walk the earth as a loner with a death wish who also knew how to ruin morgoth's **** . Everytime he trusted anyone else he gets betrayed, but their treachery always backfired and Turin just kill them.
To sum up his story Born->Kicks *** ->Flees->Kicks *** ->Betrayed->Flees->Kicks *** ->Betrayed->Kicks *** ->flees->kicks *** ->Flees->Kicks *** ->Does sister->Kills Dragon->Kills self What an *** beater. |

I am gonna have to go with Turin, his life was so sad by the end you are just heartbroken for him and poor Ninial. And of all the heros of men and elves he is the only one that could of for sure gave Meklor the beating he had coming.Had Sauron meet Turin in open battle he sure as hell would of lost alot more then just a fingure, and you die to Gurthang no little ring is gonna bring you back. Eowyn, then Merry, then Sam, then Gollum, then Pippin, then Legolas... and so on and so forth. I dunno... I like the way some of them are in the books more than the movies or the other way around. I love Merry and Pippin in the books, but in the movies they are stupider (is that a word?). Legolas rocks in the movie (what girl doesn't think so?) and Sam, Gollum, and Eowyn are just about the same in both movie and book.

ok... um, tacky moment: wargs attacking, gets up on horse behind gimli. i know he actually did that, but it looks completely stupid. plus his skirt keeps on blowing up/out. most off-putting.
tacky: shield bit. may have been good, but a teensy bit OTT. plus, some dumb elvish lines, like the red sun, and the one about the uruks and their masters whips. i dont go for those sort of lines. personal thoughts, dont hesitate to disagree. i just dont particularly like him

Haha! I don't disagree w/ you there! I saw it twice with the same friend and every time he would say the red sun line she would start laughing so hard. It hilarious b/c it is so random! The part where he gets on the horse (I'm pretty sure) is computer animated. Yes I agree, some of the lines are pretty corny (though they were in the book) and they don't flow too well. But I love how his friendship w/ aragorn and gimili shows. And well... although I am ashamed b/c I used to make fun of boy-crazy girls... HE IS FINE!

I like Bill the Pony. He is so cute. I would take him and let him live in my basement. It's cold down here. But better than the scary mines. Ponies don't like big scary enclosed spaces. Peace out dudes.

Hobbits - Samwise & Peregrin.
Humans - Aragorn & Thèoden. Dwarves - Gimli (the only one I really know) Elves - Legolas, Arwen, Elrond, Celeborn, Galadriel, ALL of them!!! Maiar - Gandalf. Others - Gollum (only in the films) & Bombadil. Aragorn is my very favourite (he is SO good-looking ) then it's Legolas then Arwen.. Bye, Elessar.

Gandalf the Grey is my favourite. He's also the one I'd most like to know in real life. I always like the mentor type characters - Gandalf, old Obi-Wan, my grandmother.
Gandalf is a wealth of knowledge but is very down to earth (smokes a pipe), likes to walk, can fight really well, and has a fantastic sense of humour. Can be understanding and patient, but also quick-tempered and fiery. Perfect mentor.

Aragorn is my fav. (And not just because he's so cute, Alana/Arwen ) He is brave, strong, loyal blahblahblah... and because he is one of the few Men who doesn't freak out when he sees The One Ring.
Frodo is my fav too. Because he's so little and has to do such hard things. Every time I see those big, blue, suffering eyes...... *sigh* [ January 20, 2003: Message edited by: Finnguala ]

I'm definitely with you on this one, doug*platypus. Gandalf is probably my ultimately favorite character. The mentor thing works for me; also because Gandalf always seems so much like the people that I like to call my mentors. But you forgot to mention he is incredibly witty *or maybe you just meant that to be included in his great sense of humour...either way...*!
Also, I love all the hobbits and their relationship with eachother. My favorite female character is definitely Eowyn! I always thought she was so beautiful and strong - ready to fight in an instant. But I must say that I also really like Galadriel. Here mere presence suggests such grandeur and mystery! [ January 20, 2003: Message edited by: Vardadurwen ]

hmmm...probably aragorn and pippin. aragorn becuase he's - well...aragorn. i don't know how to explain it - you just kind of feel sorry for him and admire him at the same time. plus he's a darling.
pip is the comic relief of it all. when frodo gets all bluh bluh ring takeover-ish near the end, pippin is still bouncing along like the happy little hobbit he is. it's nice to see/read about a cheerful face in the middle of all that ruin.

The Nazgul rock my socks. They are totally awesome, totally evil, and very fun to draw. PJ did a decent job representing them, but the characters should have been a lot more afraid of them than they were. In the books they are very cool indeed.
Pippin and Merry are wonderful- so fun loving and yet you watch them grow more serious and mature as the story goes on. But still they find time for humor and pipeweed. Gollum. Yes, precious, yes. We liked Gollums, we did. Sam- the ultimate friend. Loyal to the end like a dog that never leaves your side, giving his water to Frodo instead of keeping it for himself, and being his Frodo's legs when the real one didn't work. Those are my fave characters. As for non-humanlike characters... Shadowfax is pretty darn cool. I wish I had a horse like him. And the dwimmerlaiks, the winged steeds of the Nazgul, they also rock my socks. -Nazzy ((EDIT: Lol @ Estelyn on the chat banner. Groovy squirrel there!)) my favourite is the G-man himself.
GANDALF wise man, witty lines, and I think that he is Tolkien...I don't know but he sounds like the professor. Then Bilbo. Galadriel Legolas(from the book) Pippin

I can't say I have just one favorite charecter. I like Strider just because in the books he starts out with humble beginnings and is destined to become a king! I like Legolas because although he's a wood-elf, he's drawn to the sea and in a way, so am I...and I like Gimli because he reminds me so much of another charecter in a series of books that I like...

My fav's must be one of the hobbits.. I like the hobbits very much.. Merry and Pippin are high up on the list.. but I think that Sam is on no. 1. His devotion to Frodo and also so orgininal but on the same time so ordinary just fascinates me I think...
