Silmaril Magic

Hello one and all!! can you tell i'm in a good mood! i wasn't sure where to put this so...
when I last read LOTR I don't remember any spells, and elven magic seemed distant and untouchable which made it all the more appealing!! In fact I remember Galadriel saying that she didn't understand when Sam asked for elven 'magic'. Now in the film they have spells. Is this for HP fans and appealing to other people? Although any extra elven phrases are good!
And then... in the Silm. I'm sure it said that elfs had no magic powers but they had been alive long enough to have trained and improved their skills so they looked magic to mortals! I seem to have confused myself and probably everyone else!! Any answers or I'm I missing something!

What spells did they use? THe only one that I can think of is the one with Arwen at the ford.

Quote:
Nin o Chithaeglir, lasto beth daer, Rimmo nin Bruinen dan in Ulaer! Nin o Chithaeglir, lasto beth daer, Rimmo nin Bruinen dan in Ulaer! (Waters of the Misty Mountains listen to the great word; flow waters of Loudwater against the Ringwraiths!)
I'm not sure that that is even a spell per say.

The elves might seem like magic, but perhaps they have a craft that is just more advanced than ours?

You could also check out Samīs "magic" rope? or more idea's.

That's the one I meant and Elrond's one but that's very similar!! I just don't understand why? elves are skilled far beyond mortal craft with out even trying so why do people insist on making them do stupid things!

It was actually Elrond who performed that feat. Whether his ring, Vilya, aided him in this, or if he was just in touch with the river, it is uncertain. Galadriel did not recognize Sam's reference to magic because to the elves it would just seem like part of life - not a magic trick. Elves were very different from men in that.

That?

In the book yes, in the movie, it shows Arwen but not elrond making the water come down so fast. In the book Gandalf also had a part in it, he made the water look like horses.

In the movie, it is wrong. Save that for the movie forum.

I always wandered about this myself, though there is much magic in the book there is no insinuation that you are able to LEARN magic, except the small part about Beorn being a bit of a magician, but i think ther eis more to that than meats the eye. i also thought i mention perhaps the most obvious spell to me in the series in the one Saruman casts as he speaks.
