I personally cannot stand the audio. I hate the way that Pippin and merry sound so posh, and Aragon has a lispe. No offence to anyone with a lispe, but Aragorn thon of Arathorn doesnt sound quite right.

Oh god I just laughed so hard....
I would suggest buying a Tolkien guide or encyclopedia if you're really serious. |

Have you read the books? That usually helps...

I hate audio books. Better to read them and get my own idea of what a character sounds like than to have it dictated to me by some guy getting paid to talk to a tape recorder. I'm serious. Read the books: it's such a better experience. If you don't have the time to sit down and read them, wait until you do.

It generally doesn't work....especially if your a deep sleeper. And around the REM period of sleep you don't remember anything.
If you must buy the audio books, at least listen to them while sitting down and paying attention to them. [ February 12, 2003: Message edited by: Beren87 ] |

I listened to them on a journey down to Cornwall. It is really relaxing, and passed the time well.

Exactly, except you tend to get sidetracked at certain parts...miss a few exits...end up in another country...yes, must be careful.

when you end up in London instead of Cornwall, then Wales, then the wrong part of Cornwall, its time to turn them off!

Personally, I have no problem with the Audios. They are quite a good way of passing the time on a long journey. Sometimes their voices can be annoying, but I recommend the BBC audio's. Frodo is read by Ian Holm, who played Bilbo in the movie, and he sounds just right. I have read the books so I can tell you that it doesn't ruin the story, although the books are still better!
