Sting The Silmillarion: First edition??

I went to the bookstore yesterday with the purpose of finding The Silmillarion. To my dismay, all of them had: Second edition, edited by Christopher Tolkien printed on the covers. Was there ever a first, original edition? Or is this 'second edition' really the first edition?

Tolkien

Mine says 'Edited By Christopher Tolkien' and what not. I wasn't even aware that there were two different versions. I think there is only one, edited by Tolkiens son, because Tolkien never finished it himself.

Sting

They are all edited by Christopher Tolkien. JRR dies in 1973, Christopher compiled and put together the Silm and released it in 1977 which is the edition (first) I have, and the reason that this is in all the editions.
