Could Gildor Inglorion be the son of Felagund? I mean his name translates to Gildor son of Inglor, which was the original name of Finrod.

Was it really? I never knew that. Well I suppose he could...but the main problem with that is that it was never mentioned that Finrod actually married or anything, having left his beloved in Aman.

I highly doubt it, as there is never mention of Finrod Felagund being married. His true love,

An interesting quote is the prophecy Felagund spoke to Galadriel of Nargothrond:

Quote:

Nor shall anything of my realm endure that a son should inherit.

I take this to mean that he forebodes the sack of Nargothrond and possibly that he knows that he will have no son, since Amarie chose the Undying Lands over him and he can never give his love to another.

It is possible that Professor Tolkien simply liked the sound of Inglorion but did not like the name Elven name of Inglor for Felagund. I do not think Gildor is Felagund's son.

The Professor could have just liked the name Inglor, and have given it to one of the Elves in Finrod's entourage, making Gildor Inglorion a member of the House of Finrod, but not directly related.

I'm aware of the whole Amarie thing, but in late genealogical tables of the House of Finwe, Felagund left his wife in Aman. He very well could have had a son.

Oh yes, when LOTR was published in 1954, Finrod was still Inglor. He may have kept it by oversight. By the way, Finarfin's mother name was Ingalaure, which might translate to Inglor. Though I don't think Pengolodh would misplace a son of Finarfin
