cellurdur has just left Hobbiton.
Prince of Dol Amroth the descandant of Mithrellas or kin of Elendil?

In the words of Christopher Tolkien we are left with two distinct 'traditions' about their origin.

The full quote found in the Unfinished Tales is as follows

'While not impossible, these explanations to save consistency seem to be less likely than that of two distinct and independent 'traditions' of the origins of the Lords of Dol Amroth.'

In brief we are left with two versions.

1. The story of Imrazor and Mithrellas, where their son becomes the first Lord of Dol Amroth.
2. The second where the Dol Amroth's are kin to Elendil, who had escaped Numenor before the downfall and were living in Belfalas. Elendil after arriving in Middle Earth raised them to the rank of princes and had them as the second most important noble in the realm.
3. A mixture of the two, which Tolkien himself considers unlikely.

So what thoughts do you have on the matter and which version do you tend to be the more likely?
