the last alliance or the union of maedhros
Which alliance was more powerful: The last alliance of men and elves that defeated sauron in the second age or the union of maedhros that lost to morgoth at the nirnaeth but put up a heck of a fight.
If both alliances met each other in a open plain, who do you think would come out victorious. |

I should have said the Union of Maedhros. The First Age was a time when the spirit of the Firstborn were yet young and powerful, and the men valiant and brave as well. The blood yet ran pure in their veins. Those of the Second Age were more of a shadow of their glorious ancestors, just as Sauron was but a shadow of his master and former lord Morgoth. The strength of Men and Elves steadily lessen over the years; just look at the number of Balrogs that Glorfindel and co. killed in the First Age, and then the trouble Gandalf who was sent by the Maiar had with just one Balrog, and think whether a martial artist of this age would have any chance against a Balrog if one came rampaging down the streets of New York right now. Not to mention that the ones that Tolkien himself endows with the title of the 'Greatest' are those of the First Age, as well. Just as Feanor, the Greatest of the Noldor, of Hurin, the Greatest of the Children of Men.
