Request of Permission
Okay, I finally went through the whole "Effects of Fantasy" thread (great answers and, for a while, an interesting debate, until it got mean). I've found tons of useful quotes that I'd like to put in my paper but I don't want to use them without the author's permission, so, may I get permission from you guys to use the following quotes?

Considering that these posts were made on a website to which the public has access, as I understand it, their content is in the public domain. Very polite to ask permission though.

Not that it's really any of my business, none of the words being mine, but just out of curiousity... how are you planning to cite them? I don't believe MLA makes any allowance for such things as of yet, and they pose interesting citation problems, although I do think Internet words are indeed valid.

There actually is a way to cite these quotes in MLA format. For the main citation (on the "Works Cited" page) you put down the name and address of the message board. When you do an in-text citation, you put down something like "...(Barrow Downs, post 7)" I think. And, to clarify the speaker of the quote, you'd just put his/her name in the sentence in which you quote them somewhere.
And thanks guys for your extra permission. I just wanted to be really sure it was okay for me to quote you. I will tell you all about the paper when I find out how it went (I've got to do a presentation on it Wednsday).

Hmm. Considering you said it's due Monday this probably won't matter. At least I hope you're not feverishly working on it now. (if it was me, I would be) But thanks, glad you found something you might be able to use in what I said.
Goodluck, and I'd love to read it.

Wow! I've been quoted! I feel so honoured!
I know this is late, but use any words of mine. Words are just toys that I play with, and I will share them with anyone who wants to play with me. Excuse the corny analogy, but its all I can come up with And I'd love to read it too! [ May 05, 2002: Message edited by: Aosama, the Wandering Star ] |
