Tolkien The 14th History of Middle Earth Book?

Whilst on a brows of the Amazon website I came across this. Now, I recently completed my collection of all 13 Books in The History of Middle Earth series (Index included). This Book, “The End of the Third Age”, is not one of them. It says it is part of The History of The Lord of the Rings series, but so too are "The Return of the Shadow", "The Treason of Isenguard", "The War of the Ring" and "Sauron Defeated", All of which are numbered in The History of Middle Earth series.
Unless this book is being numbered 13 (The Index is not numbered in the UK editions) or 9.5 I cannot see where it will fit.
I have now ordered the Book in question and was wondering if anyone had it and could tell me if it is counted among The History of Middle Earth series. As it has the same design as the others, it looks as if it will fit.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Hookbill! This is part of Sauron Defeated, it includes the text up to page 141 but excludes the rest (including the Notion Club Papers). It was intended for those who just wanted the stuff about LotR. It is, I have to say, not very good that it is misleadingly titled like that!

Thumbs up

Ah! Thank you Lalwendė! I'm glad you told me this. You've saved me some embarrassment there if I had to discover that when it dropped through the letterbox. Do you actually have this? If so, what number is it counted as in the HoME series, or is it not counted in it?
I just want to know where I'll have to put it in my bookcase.

I think you could count it as either 8a or 8.5, as it doesn't have a number I hear. Though it could be quite handy if say you wanted to take all the volumes on LotR anywhere and not have to take extra pages of other stuff too, and of course, if you are a completist then you have to have it.

Tolkien

On a related note:

Is there a way to get Sauron Defeated without The End of the Third Age?

I assume you could buy a copy of Notion Club Papers and the Drowning of Anadaunae individually.

Well, I've had a good look around and I cannot seem to find it. I even checked The Official Tolkien Website and could not find it listed, so I assume they are not available.

I had bought "End of the 3rd age" and then ended up buying "Sauron Defeated" as well. But then, I do "style" myself as a "collector" (...hah! they laughed.)

ANd then a friend gave me the **boxed set** of the "History of the Lord of the RIngs." Not that I have, you know, like a weakness for boxed sets, or anything.
