Of Maeglin
As we know Maeglin was the son of Eol and Aredhel. But Maeglin's tale is told with such disguise that it is impossible for me to understand how he fell into darkness. Was it his love for Idril or his lust for power that turned him to darkness.

This was discussed before... even in the chatroom too.
Maeglin’s desire for his first cousin, Idril was viewed as something twisted. His lust for power was only second, in my opinion, only to his twisted desire for her. Plus, Tuor's presence probably caused him great envy. Imagine Idril in love with a mere human... and Maeglin probably considered himself "above" Tuor's rank. Morgoth used that desire to manipulate him. It can probably be said it was part of the curse of the children of Feanor that it turned out the way it did, since it eventually led to the fall of Gondolin. |
