Favourite cameos
Do you have a favourite cameo? I think out of all the cameos in the films, the one I like the best is Royd Tolkien as a ranger.

Viggo Mortensen's son played the first orc he (Viggo) killed in the Battle of the Pellenor Fields. This was the same boy that persuaded his father to do the picture in the first place.

Christian Rivers as one of the Gondorian soldiers who was *supposed* to be guarding the beacon at Minas Tirith, just because I was so excited that I knew who he was.

The first one with PJ as some random guy holding a carrot. I think it was funny because it was a dark, gloomy shot of the streets of Bree and then it's like oh look, it's a bright orange carrot... It stood out a ton and made me laugh If the carrot wasn't there it wouldn't have been as memorable.

For some inexplicable reason, I'm a big fan of members of the crew whom you see in the EE documentaries making cameos in the films. I especially like Gino Acevedo - he does the best personal impressions! For example, the one of the Russian digital artist who trained him up on the computer or of Peter Jackson. I thought putting him in the Corsair ships scene, which was just teeming with cameos (including one by Andrew Lesnie, another favourite), was just brilliant.

I'm a big fan of the Corsair scene also, especially Gino Acevedo & PJ.
Also, when they show all the Kings of Men with their Rings during the Prolouge at the beginning of FotR, you can see John Howe and Alan Lee. |

Wow! I didn't know about Viggo's son either! I must be really bad at recognising people too. I've watched FOTR about 50 something times and I didn't even notice Alan Lee and John Howe! How stupid do I feel?
I have to agree about PJ and the carrot tho!It made me laugh so much! All the people I was watching it with couldn't understand why it was so funny tho, I just think thta it has to be the sheer randomness of it. Who'd have thought a hairy guy holding a carrot could make you happy, eh(well at least for a little while)?

Is John Howe one of the "nine mortal men doomed to die" too? I thought it was just Alan Lee...*checks* You're right. They both are there, one from the end of each side. John Howe one from the right, Alan Lee one from the left (if I'm recognizing them correctly).

My favourite cameo was that of peter jacksons children. They are so cute in the fellowship as the children listening to gandalfs story. They also appear in ROTR as citizen of minis tirith throwing flowers to the soldiers leaving to try and take back osgiliath.

Nepotism .. alive and well
I could have just about coped with one appearance by the Jackson moppets but I found three such prominent ones somewhat nauseating - especially since they had a very limited range of expressions (of course they may have been drugged into docility ). I mean they are so conspicuous, makes it look like that the citizens of Middle Earth were not so much reproducing but cloning ... and from a very limited gene pool....

Well for me this one is straight forward The corsair scene where PJ gets killed. The director of the movies being killed. I also like it that there are so many cameos in that one scene and of course their commentary on it is funny too.
