Middle-earth Board Game fun

I am a big fan of board games and have a few Middle-earth related games on the shelf here in the barrow, so I thought I'd share this funny link of games and invite others to try to invent their own....

Tengwar Scrabble. Heh. Indeed...

How about Palantir Ker-Plunk? The clear plastic tower thingy is made to resemble Orthanc, and the little multi-coloured sticks are crafted to resemble staffs. Of course, each of the marbles will be a little mini Palantir. Some artistic licence will be needed as there will need to be many more of them than in the book or they won't make such as satisfying crash as they tumble down and roll across the dining room table.

I would also like to see Buck-A-Bill. This game is based around a plastic pony onto which you must pile all kinds of stuff like Sam's frying pans, sleeping rolls, Hobbits and apples (in homage to Bill Ferny himself). Once poor Bill gets too heavily laden the whole shebang backfires and lots of bits of plastic hit your brother in the face...

Buckaroo-roo-roo!

Helms Deep Buckaroo would be good. How many Orcs can you balance on the fortress walls before the whole place gets blown apart.

I'm also thinking about a Mordor inspired version of that classic game, Operation, but it's proving far to scary to contemplate....

Same here, except I don't have Trivial Pursuit LOTR, I figured it would be too cruel to try to quiz my non-LOTR family on Tolkien's works. I recently bought LOTR Monoply, and I knew I was loosing when all my "territories" have been mortgaged off except Osiglath and Mt. Doom. I should have known it was a bad idea to have my Mom be the One Ring and myself Frodo.

As for imaginary games, why not have a LOTR spoof on the Wheel of Fortune board game? Instead of random catagories and puzzles, and Tolkien related ones.
People- Races
Before and After- Before and After (no point in changing this challenging category)
Events- Battles
Phrase- Elvish Phrase

Anyway, you get the idea.

My sister and I invented this game using the LOTR Trivial Pursuit cards, and it's LOTR Pictionary. We just use the answers from the TP game and use them to draw pictures with. Some of them are really easy, like "Which elf is the son of Thranduil? and then you just draw a bow and arrow for Legolas. But some are hard because they're like, "What are the four Middlearth races that live underground?" and you have to figure out how to draw Lurtz and Grishnahk and a goblin and Gimli. (Merry is perpetually a carrot, while Pippin is perpetually a mug of ale.) I swear I've never laughed so hard as when we're playing that game. I'm thinking about copyrighting it.

Has anyone played Scrabble using only Tolkien stuff (characters, places, etc). I have.

Of course you have to make it more simple than the usual Scrabble game, so if you're not satisfied with what letters you get on the first try, you are allowed to exchange the letters three times more. After that, you have to make a word out of the letters you got, for bad or worse. The only problem with this game is that there are too few letters such as 'R' and to many "E's and vocals in general...There should be a Tolkien Scrabble Game made...

EDIT: Duh. BW's link loaded and I went there and saw someone already thought of a Scrabble Game for Elvish. But still, this is somewhat different that what I was suggesting. This would really be difficult, especially for those of us who are not fluent in Elvish.

My brother and I invented our own version of chess using blocks of wood with characters' faces pasted on them. Like ring-bearer has a pic. of Elijah wood as frodo and is the equivalent of a rook. (Ring-bearer to E-4 and such.) Very exciting because it took us like twenty games to remember what all the pieces were and what their proper names were.

The lovely and most excellently hairy Aragorn, but it's not the "king" it's "Great Chieftain" or if you want to be fancy "Great Chieftain of the Dunedain."

I was thinking perhaps a LotR version of Guess Who? ( I think that's what its called) Where people have to guess what LotR character you have by asking yes or no questions.

" Is he a hobbit?"
"No"
** puts down all the pictures of hobbits**

I love that game, it would be fun with a LotR theme.

Great idea! (I wish I thought of it.) Anyway, here's a little scene that popped into my head as I read your post:

"Does he have poor hygene?"
"Yes."
(Puts down all pictures of non-scraggly characters)
"Does he have a beard?"
"Yes."
(Knocks down all pictures of orks, goblins etc)
"Is he Aragorn?"
"Yes." Mutters: "Darn it."

First: LOTR Dance Dance Revolution. Not a board game, but it would be fun trying your dance moves against Boromir the Disco King.

Next: LOTR Operation. You have to remove all the arrows from Boromir without hitting the sides.

Then: LOTR Clue: "I think it was... Gandalf... on the Bridge of Khazad-dum... with the staff!"

How about: LOTR Parcheesi? You can have the little green wargs, little blue Oiliphaunts, little red Nasgul steeds and little yellow balrogs!

Masterpiece? You can auction off the Ring, the Evenstar, Legolas.... The competition would be fierce!
