If you own a bank (for instance), and want a dedicated t1 long distance communication line between your main database and an ATM, you would order that line from a long distance carrier, that long distance carrier would order the local portion of that line from the local exchange carrier. if your t1 goes down and the long distance carrier determines the problem to be in the local exchange portion, a trouble ticket is generated by that local exchange carrier and worked. I'm the guy that double checks those tickets when they are closed out. Does it get much better than that?

More than often I simply get money from people who don't expect me to pay them back.
However, when that fails, I'll write a story or two to send in to some obscure Sci-fi magazine. Or design some web-page for a company or person. Boring work, but it gives me a lot of flexibility. Oh, that and I go to school. [ January 19, 2003: Message edited by: Beren87 ] |

Hi.
I'm attending the 12th class in a German school. In my spare time I read a lot, meet my girlfriend, go out with friends, work on my LOTR-Webpage and so on. Ah, I forgot music. Sometimes I play the piano, since I've been learning it for 12 years. Since my friends aren't much concerned with my Tolkien-"mania", I haven't ever been called a nerd. *g*

I have an after-school job at a grocery store either doing the cash register or bagging groceries. I like having $$$. A lot of kids are getting into Tolkien at my school; one even rode his bike to the next town to get the Silmarillion.

Esty, I can't believe it took you so long.
My main job is going attending my University where I recently switched to business after two years of physics. During the school year I work part time at a department store. During the summer I work full time tutoring kids.

How weird, lord of dor-lomin. I also am a business major, work at a department store, and tutor kids during the summer (not full time though). Come to think of it, it's the same University and department store as you!

Oh yeah? Well, you'll see after next semester that the last one was a fluke.
And phantom, you forgot to mention that you make some money doing recordings for people (and that you're hoping to make a bunch of money next summer when you get done with your CD) (and I bet I get promoted at work sooner than you)

After looking back to the first post of this series, I realise that I must be a half-nerd.
I am a Star Trek fan (Trekkie not Trekker) but I'm not any kind of computer nut. Posting on boards like this is the limit of my IT skills. I'm a Church Leader and a volluntary Youth Worker but to earn my daily bread, beer and pipe-weed I'm a Servant of Lore-masters and Assistant to Wizards (I'm a Lab Technician in a University working with academics and scientists). |

What are the qualifications to be a nerd? I don't watch Trekkie, and I hate computers. Though, I have to admit, a lot of these computer peoeple and Trekkies strike me as insane. There is a boy in my Sociology class who has no intrest but computers, and whenever I attempt to talk to him, he shys away and mumbles. Oh yeah, he is also scared of girls. And he is 18. My Star Trek fan friend also though that Final Fantasy, Vannila sky, Jason X and Armageddon were good movies, and he hasn't heard of Martin Scorecse. He also thinks Robert De Niro played Micheal Corleone.

Nicer? Yes. Yawn inspiring? In most cases. Have terrible taste in movies? Definetly. I don't think that any of the people who haev posted here fit my interpreation of a 'Nerd', I.e Boring, not being able to make friends.
