Really? The answer was Esty? Awesome! Well, here's the next one:
1) Survived the death 2) The occupation of the unlikly friend 3) where they had to pass to get to where they wanted 4) The item that stayed in the family 5) The place of the stars 6) the bad guy I didn't put a lot of effort in it due to my busy schedule, so there you go!

Another favorite thread of mine. If nobody minds I'd like to pose a new question here? Familiarity with Saucepan's cryptic techniques will be helpful.
1. there’s one for meat, and one for scrambling the short world contained. 2. Legolas = young lady lawyer takes a shot in the dark 3. Iris = Deep purple sword-bearer of Ithilien 4. Ye gods! It's Elton John’s single sensational sister 5. Airy entrance for merpeople, and "well met" at that 6. Beer Mona! I’ve been lonely far too long. 7. Boy precedes one small ball walking backwards. Good Luck and happy decoding. Sophe

I'm glad you've resurrected this thread - I wouldn't call myself good at these but they're fun to try to figure out anyway.
2 - Legolas? Young lady - lass, lawyer - ?, and Legolas took a shot in the dark when he shot at the Nazgûl's steed over the Anduin. |

Yes, It most certainly is Legolas. And I must say, I pillaged the clue from Phrim earlier in the thread. Young Lady Lawyer = Legal-lass .
I'll edit in the correct answers as they're given in my original post. Sophia

*bump*
a clue or two?
1. is the hardest clue in the game 3. is a straight clue and has nothing to do with the band Deep Purple 4. appropriate song title should provide a substantial clue. Original clue has been modified.

3. Deep purple sword-bearer of Ithilien This text can be found in LOTR when the hobbits are passing through Ithilien- Quote:

name that tune...
sorry, not that one.
[edit:] if it helps, "sister" is not an allusion to the song, but part of the straight clue. And perhaps the clue should be worded "Ye gods! It's Elton John's single, sensational sister." (Note, comma added)

...because I'm pretty sure he had it.
But yes, that is the password. Once all the clues have been worked out the thread will be yours Nilp. Sophia

It's okay, King Nilp.
I wouldn't have taken the thread anyway. I couldn't justify it considering I can't solve any of the mini clues. (but, if I have the time this afternoon to think and I'm able to solve a couple clues- then you'll be in trouble )

And then yield the thread to me! BWAHAHAHAHAHA!!!
Sorry, people. I had trouble solving the clues, but _LIN___ just beckoned to me (must be all those days at PoF . . . ) Anywhen, is #1 Gamgee?

#1 is not Gamgee..
Since I'm looking at the clue again, and finding that it is ridiculously difficult, here's a few hints. 1) it is an object. 2) it is two words. 3) the first part of the clue reference the second word. 4) the second part of the clue references the first word. Now it should be much easier. I think. Sophia

*Saucepan shamelessly takes Sophia's hint to the phantom on the Cryptic Clues thread*
Airy entrance for merpeople = Gill Door So the answer to #5 must be Gildor, who was "well met" by Frodo, Sam and Pippin.

Once again piggy-backing on the efforts of others ...
7. Boy precedes one small ball walking backwards.
Boy = Lad One = A Small ball = Bal Which give Ladabal. But, walking backwards, it is Labadal, aka Turin's friend Sador.
