everyday stuff with elves
it seems like elves are always depicted as feasting, making wise descisions, singing, hunting/gaurding that sorta thing.
but do elves have servents? and if they do, are they elf servants? where do they go to the bathroom? (i know, personal question, but it's never mentioned in any book by tolkien! can't you just see the company running from orcs and pippin shouting to gandalf, "Gandalf! I really, really gotta go!" and gandalf replies, "fool of a took! you shoulda gone before we were attacked!") also, is the only thing considered fun for elves singing and poetry? these are all questions pressing my mind. |

Well, Rilwen, remember that in The Hobbit, there was an Elven butler, and the Elven version of longshoreman, as well. Hey, even in "Fair Elfland", someone had to do the work.
Now, whether the elves shared duties in a form of communistic society (There. Happy, Gimli, Son of Gloin?) or if they worked hard for their silver pennies; Tolkien refuses to reveal. |

I don't understand though. Why would Elves need servants or butlers? Since, of course, they have all the time they need, and, why would a being so kind-hearted want to put someone to work. And, actually, throughout all the books I've read, I've never actually seen something saying : "And so the elf worked for silver pennies". Elves didn't go by money. They never worked for it and never payed it. So then, unless if it were an elf taking care of another, elves would most likely be self-served.

In english we just finished Lord of the Flies (no, it is not at all related to the Lord of the Rings) It actually talks about where and how they went to the bathroom! But it is the only book that I have ever read that does that. I'm telling ya, the dude who wrote it had problems.
Sorry that was kind of not related. Oh well, deal.

Well, since were asking personal questions about Elves:
Do Elves become ill? Do they throw up? (just curious) Do Elves cry? Do Elves become tired to the point od exhaustion? Do you think Elrond was sad when Celebrian left Middle-Earth?? These questions have been bugging me for a while.

Ooo, interesting stuff. I can tackle a couple of these.
Frodo Baggins- Elves can't get sick persay, but they can get drunk (read the Hobbit) and I'll bet they can also get some pretty nasty hangovers too. Yes, elves probably do cry, although they are way more reserved than Men, and I'm also willing to bet that Elrond shed a few tears when a very traumatized Celebrian had to leave Middle-Earth, but keep in mind that he also knew their parting was not a permanent one. As for the other questions, ummm... No se.

That was in the hobbit when Thorin & Co. were captured in Mirkwood and taken to the Elvenking's palace. So they did have butlers. Elves are living beings, so of course they get sick. However, since they are immmortal, they would not get sick to the point of death. I'm pretty sure they threw up. Everyone cries, even elves. Everyone tires. When Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli were pusuing the Uruk-Hai all of them were complaining of how tired they were. I don't know who Celebrian is, as I haven't read The Silmarillian yet. Where do elves go to the bathroom? Come on, the same place as everyone! In a bush, in a chamber pot! In a cup! In the toliet! Why don't we apply all these questions to dwarves? Gimli, there is a brief account of Celebrian in the appendix in ROTK. I found it interesting.

Elves probably have nightmares, but they're so well reserved that you would never know if they had a good dream or not.
Do they wear Wedding rings? Probably |

Yes they wear wedding rings on their RIGHT hands. Ask Nufaciel for the page #. It's in "Morgoth's ring" in the Sil.
Elf children are so well behaved that they require very little what's the word I'm looking for ... it's not guidance... instruction.

Tight green shoes that are pointy and have jingle bells on the ends!
No, just kidding, they were said to wear flat-soled shoes that were noiseless instead of boots for traveling, or on many occasions I suppose they went barefoot. Lucky!

But anyway, he'd probably be kicked all the way to the Eymn Muil.

I thought that Elves just did this meditation thing where they experienced visions and the like instead of sleeping. When Aragorn, Gimli and Legolas are pursuing Merry, Pippin and the Orcs, Legolas took watch duty while the other two slept because he didn't need it. He had "slept" while on the foot.

Of course Elves wash their hair! Why do you think it's so nice and shiny?
Now, the real question is: do they use some special shampoo?
