Swords are useful for two things:
Whacking people on the head and tripping people up. (This makes no sense unless you've read my documentary, so ignore it but it is true, as Faramir found out...)

Hehe. Legolas' bow was made in Lothlorien out of real elf hair (sort of gross, I know)

Yes, sort of. I guess by Sauron, but I think he'd rather called it his wife . It can be considered a weapon, but a perilous one, it can also be considered a tool, but again, a perilous one.

Us down at Gondor see it as a weapon. And a good one at that.

I believe Gandalf said that the rings of power were tools that gauged the power, will, and intentions of the bearer and then acted or enhanced upon ther desire to do an intended task. Whether it be as a weapon , to create, to protect etc.etc.etc.
So they could be a weapon but were much more multi-fasated than that. |

Originally it was called Narsil, and it was the sword of Elendil. I don't know whether it was passed on to Isildur, or it was originally his sword. Anyhow, it was broken, and then Isildur cut Sauron's ring-finger off with the Shards of Narsil. They were passed through the generations, until Aragorn had it reforged by the Elves, and renamed it as Anduril. I think that's about right.

Ok. You know the sword that Arwen pull out in the "flight to the Ford" scene? That is Hadafang. It can also be seen in the begining of Fotr when Elrond is leading the army of elves into battle.

Sting was a short sword forged by the Elven smiths of Gondolin during the First Age. It was forged for use in the fight against Morgoth's armies and shone blue when Orcs were near.
After the fall of Gondolin, nothing is known of its history until it turned up in the hoard of William Huggins, Bert and Tom, the Trolls that Bilbo and company came across in The Hobbit. Bilbo named the weapon Sting after he had used it to kill the Spider that had been trying to bind him in its webs in Mirkwood: Quote:

Yup . It really came from the Elves .
And Bilbo Baggins and Dwarves found two more swords in a troll cave during the journey to the Lonely mountain . And as Elrond told , they had belonged to Western mountain Elves , the ancestors of his kin . They were made in Gondolin specially for the goblin wars . Torin's sword was nemed Orcrist , it means goblin cuter and there was another sword - Glamdring - the death of enemy . And as far as I got it it was given to Gandalf . But can't find where did Bilbo find he's sword . I'm too lazy to read but you can try finding it in "The Hobbit" . And I know where you can order all (well maybe not all) LotR weapons , only they are ex-pen-cive . Hope I helped somehow
