Elvish blood in Boromir and Faramir...
Okay, so we all know that Boromir and Faramir had a little Elvish in them. What I'm wondering is... was it enough to be fairly obvious? I mean, Boromir doesn't really seem the type of person to have Elvish blood; is it simply because he took after his father more than his mother? Is there anything that causes the Elvish traits to show up more (or less) in people like Finduilas and her children, or is it completely random? Does anyone know anything about genetics in Middle-earth? This is just something that I've been wondering about for a while... sorry if I'm not making any sense, or if this is in the wrong forum. The line of the Princes of Dol Amroth reputedly had Elvish blood in them because the Elf-lady Mithrellas had wedded Imrazor the Numenorean, and their son was the first Lord of Dol Amroth. The mother of Boromir and Faramir, Finduilas of Dol Amroth was a descendant of that line. I personally think Faramir inherited a bit more of the "Elvish side" of his family than Boromir. He was also the most like his father, since "in both of them the blood of Numenor ran true." Denethor wished that his heir (and favorite) Boromir had also inherited the Numenorean "abilities," but Tolkien himself said that it was strange that two of the men of that family had inherited that, and one hadn't.
