CSteefel has just left Hobbiton.
First appearance/mention of Gandalf

I see that Gandalf entered Dol Goldur in 2063, and of course is mentioned to have arrived in the years 1000-1100 of the Third Age to counter Sauron.

Any other mention of Gandalf earlier in the Third Age? Was he there fighting against Angmar? Even between his first visit to Angmar and the formation of the White Council, there seems to be no mention...

CSteefel, I believe the absence of any mention, is because there is none to be found. That is the earliest known time that he arrived.

I was thinking of between when he arrived and later events in which he is mentioned, of which I can find only the visit to Dol Goldur in 2063, the White Council in 2463, and Gandalf's second visit to Dol Goldur in 2850.

CSteefel, Angmar during the Autmn of 1973 Third Age I believe, and I do not recount any record of Gandalf taking any action in the battle that ensued.

As for his action during the main specific events you have taken from the Appendix, it is assumed that Gandalf was wandering, befriending elf and man alike. To look to his names is to see that he met a multitude of people, it is also said that he had no permanent abode, (he was ever wandering Middle Earth).

Just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something.

As you say, one might conclude based on the lack of mention that he did not do much in these years, but the assortment of names he collected indicates he covered some ground. It is hard to imagine, given his mission to counter Sauron and his connection with the north, that he wasn't there in Angmar.

I vaguely remember one reference to Gandalf having visited Angmar...

probably during his travels, i think he might have visited angmar to see the extent of saurons influence, if any, was there after the downfall of angmar. Gandalf was on the mission to discover the enemy, and with the Witch-King being his LT, then Gandalf would look there eventually.
