The Silmarillion & The Matrix
I was watching The Matrix tonight, and halfway through the movie, I happened to notice something. In a way, The Matrix is very similar to the tale of Maeglin, Idril Celebrindal, Turgon, Morgoth, and Tuor.
Here's how it goes: Maeglin (Cypher or Joe Pantoliano) is deeply, almost insanly in love with Idril Celebrindal (Trinity or Carrie-Anne Moss). However, she does not return his feelings, and he becomes hateful, but is still believed to be a good guy. Tuor (Neo or Keanu Reeves) shows up on the scene, falls in love with and weds Idril. Maeglin, now furious, betrays Turgon (Morpheus or Laurence Fishburne) and his city (sort of) to Morgoth (Agent Smith). I found this kinda interesting. Can anyone think of other movies that fit a LOTR or Sil tale?

Hmm, I think that that one is a bit of a stretch. matrix like the sil? I think that they are very different. Sorry I can't think of anything else that is like the sil.

I know it's a bit of a stretch, but that's what it reminded me of, that's all!

Still there is a link, but no more than a link. Well, I kinda makes me wonder how you ever thought of the Sil during the Matrix and the story, but ok... let's not be bothered by that

Now, see, you have to have gone through the kind of treatment I've gone through to think of that: three electro shock therapy sessions, one hell of a lot of painkillers....

No, after rereading and watching, they really are quite the same. It is kind of a classic plotline though, so don't be too suprised.

It probably is classic, but I haven't read it anywhere else.

C'mon, traitor made at girl who doesn't love him sells his soul and native land to get her. I believe Gladiator had such a plot. The emperor wanted his sister, and etc..

You know, I did see that movie, come to think of it, just not all, only pieces. It was probably because I had just finished the Sil right before I watched the movie, that's most likely why I thought of it.

Of course it is classic, you see it in greek plays all the time, especially in tragedies. You can also see in some of Shakespeare's plays.
The incest thing, well that is nothing new.
