Names of the Nazgûl?
Hi, I have been searching for a topic like this here, but I can´t find any, so I post a new topic on this. Did the Nazgûl have any names, I mean, any that are known? I have been wondering some time now, and would really like to know.
Thanks in advance.

I think the only one we can be sure of is Khamûl, an easterling that was number two nazgûl, his only superior being the witchking and Sauron himself, of course.

The Nazgul were never really named. Khamul was possibly one and Gothmog (not the Balrog) another.

Then there was the Witch-King. I'm sure they had names before they got the rings, but they didn't need them when they were mindless servents of Sauron.

I wouldn't call them "mindless" so much as I would "determined." It isn't that they are mindless, you have to have a mind to command, it's that their mind is bent solely to the will of Sauron. The mind is still there, it just only thinks of the best way to serve the Lord.
I just realized that the above is off topic, so I'm adding more. I was actually talking about Gothmog just yesterday. He may or may not have been a nazgul, the text isn't explicit. All it says is that he is the "Lt. of Morgul." WK was the Lord of Morgul, so Gothmog would be the second in command after him. WK had like 5 nazgul at Minas Morgul to help him, so you could reasonably expect one of those to be his second in command. [ July 24, 2002: Message edited by: burrahobbit ]
