If we're allowed to do a "six degrees of separation" sort of thing, then I "know" Sir James Galway. My flute teacher and the guy who did all the wallpaper in my house both know him, and my dad says maybe I could get to meet him sometime, which would be quite amazing.

I have worked with someone who's late husband had been a friend of Professor Tolkien when he was writing LoTR. Both she and her husband had worked at Oxford as lecturers in modern languages and had met Tolkien, socially and professionally, on many occasions. I didn't find out until after she retired and moved away.

I've met Sean Astin at his book signing. I don't know if this technically counts as "knowing" him, but I'll pretend and live in my own little fantasy.

Did you meet Andy Serkis at his book signing, Saphy? I did! So exciting! He actually spoke to me, unlike the people who I was standing in line with.
I didn't know him, but there was a guy that went to a college here in Utah who helped with a lot of the special effects. I know, not very exciting, but considering the college he went to it is exciting! Well, for me anyway... Also, one of my friend's cousins was an Uruk hai at Helm's Deep. Nimmy

My sister-in-law has a funny tale - one of her son's friends was over on a playdate, and said "oh I was playing playstation at my house with Legolas, and then Boromir came over and he had a go with us as well."
She obviously thought it was his childlike imagination overworking. But then it turned out that Orlando Bloom was really good mates with his aunt, and that coincidentally, Sean Bean's kid was in his class at school, so it was in fact quite true.... |

I can do 'six degrees of separation' (or less), anyway. Two ways!
~My friend's brother-in-law worked on the chainmaille. ~My dad went to school with the fellow who plays the ghost on the subway in Ghost, who also was in an episode of Star Trek TNG with Patrick Stewart, who was in X-Men with Ian McKellan. Alas, my dad could've been a stuntman! If only he hadn't dislocated his shoulder so badly! Now he can't do much of anything, or it comes out again. But, he has promised to teach me to fall down stairs.

Ahh...Goonies...
I know someone who played in the Goonies... Does that count? (LOTR Movie relation: Sean Astin... Chunk...)
My uncle said that no childhood is complete without watching the Goonies at least once, so when I was a wee girl, almost pre-teen, my uncle sat me down (My brother disappeared for the day... When anything good [for me...] happens, my parents found some way to do this. Did he go to Grandmama's for the day? It's likely.*) and we spent the day watching the Goonies. I then learned from my uncle soon after that he had a close friend who played in the movie, I met them once but I didn't know this about them . Made me sort of upset. * Don't worry! My brother was always spoiled at my grandmother's (Grandma's do this of course...) and fed very well. Seriously, I'm telling the truth. ~Memories Ka~

i'm glad so many of you know people from lotr. I personally have met lots of people who have met the actors, and been like, "whatever." . i think those people have something to worry about... LOTR was a great production.

Well I don't really know them, but there are two Dutch people who took care of the make-up and faces of the Orcs and stuff, and I'm Dutch too! But I don't really know them

My friend's friend was at a mall once and a guy came up to her and said, "Will you say yes for me? These guys aren't agreeing with me." She turned around and it was Sean Astin! Elijah, Dom, and Billy were standing behind him! How exciting would that be?!
