Worst
Okay, so here we go. I can't find anything to do with this so I'll ask. In that crummy lotr movie, you know, the animated one, who was the worst looking? I thought the hobbits were AWFUL! And that little beginning sequence, I can't believe it! It's awful, so I have to ask what you guys think.

I always wondered why the elves are all cross eyed, and I love the little victory dance Frodo does when gandalf calls!
worse looking? Worse than boromir the Viking? I would say Sam.

Boromir scared me. So the did all the character in that movie, come to it. I thought Frodo of the Big Eyes was the worst.

You mean Frodo had big eyes in that movie too!

quote:
worse looking? Worse than boromir the Viking?

Well... Gondorians and Vikings are a bit alike (see the "Boromir's death scene" conversation). But still... heavens that scared me to death. And I haven't even SEEN the animated movies all the way through, just bits and pieces.

Even though Aragorn the Indian was pretty bad (or Caesar Elrond) Sam looked the worst to me. The makers had to of not read the book to think Sam was like that.
However, I thought Gandalf, Frodo and Gimli looked right on. The only problem with Frodo, Merry and Pippin is that their hair color was the only difference.
For a cartoon, it's not THAT bad, it's just that live-action fits the LotR mood better.
See you later,
~M

Which crummy LOTR movie are we talking about? Because if it's the Bakshi version, I'd have to go with Sam. Frodo might have huge eyes (hmmm, you're right - that's definitely a theme) and Boromir and Aragorn might have forgotten their pants, but Sam looks like a small-time thug who got left out in the rain overnight.
If it's the Rankin-Bass ROTK (Frodo of the Niiiine Fingers, also with big eyes) Merry and Elrond (tie) would beat Sam, though it's a photo finish. Sam still looks like a thug, but Merry looks like a moronic thug. Pippin just looks like a comic drawing of a P.G. Wodehouse hero gone really, really wrong, and Frodo just looks like a regular cartoon. Elrond, as I think I've said elsewhere, looks like a demented adult Tinky Winky with Christmas lights tangled in his hair. I'm getting bad chills just thinking about it.

Gandalf terrified me. If i were Frodo waking up in Rivendell, and he was staring back at me, I'd jump out of bed and run away screaming.
Sam was really weird... I laughed so much when at the beginning, when he learned they were off to see the elves an' all, he threw his arms in the air and said "oh, hurrah!!!"
Galadriel had one freaky facial expression. And the cross-eyed thing was weird.
Aragorn was a turnip in a skirt. And he scared me. Plus he was kinda pervy. In Lorien, he was fighting with Frodo. Frodo got him on his back and stood on him, then Aragorn whacked his sword between Frodo's legs.

quote:
Even though Aragorn the Indian was pretty bad (or Caesar Elrond)

That's exactly what I said! Me and my pals (also lotr fans) would have sleepovers and make fun of the Bashki movie. Kind of a Mystery Science Theatre 3000 thing. We always pointed out the fact that Aragorn's pants were missing, and that all the hobbita has big hair (80s hobbits!)

Reading these replies makes me want to see the said cartoons, and seeing as I don't have the film on video/DVD, I was wondering if anyone knows the whereabouts of any screenshots?

quote:
Aragorn was a turnip in a skirt.

You have NO idea how much that made me laugh.
Agg, I get mad thinking about it! I was soo angry that they made Sam all stupid and stuff. He looked like an opossum, with the teeny little eyes and big hair. And the orcs scared the hell outa me. I was watching it with my friends and when they showed Legolas, we SCREAMED. We were also terribly afraid that Aragorn's miniskirt would fly up. Viking Boromir and Gimli looked like he was wearing a potato sack on his head. I love Frodo's expression when Gandalf throws the Ring in the fire though.

Finwen,
If you have any desire to watch the cartoons, you can probably rent them at your local video store. At least it's fun to see how bad they are.
~M

Well, I've never seen them either, and you all are making me want to, just for laughs. One concern, though: what if I see them and can then never get it out of my head the way that the characters were drawn and how horrible they look? I don't want to have to think of my Sam as a thug or anything...

Throughout that piece of crap, it made me roll over laughing and hide. Most of them were very......well......abstract. I guess that's the right word, huh?
~Burzdol~

By Gondor, it looks like Legolas is going to EAT someone! What is he, the descendant of He-Man? Good heck!
*will need a year's supply of bleach to wash that out of her mind*

In the Bakshi version, I thought they all looked horrible. But the two that really killed were Sam and Boromir. Na in Verain! What were they thinking? I have to admit that I thought Pippin was kinda cute though.
In the Rankin-Bass ROTK, it was Merry and Pippin that were the worst. Though the orcs were really pathetic too. I mean, really, who would be afraid of those things? I mostly hated this one because of all the singing! U-bado! Shut up already! We get the point! Valar help us if anyone else gets the bright idea to do an LotR cartoon...

Come on, I find them quite funny (Though Pippin really looked cute). But worse than the cross-eye and Viking thing is Treebeard. And the Nazgûl are, er... funny to
[ March 14, 2003: Message edited by: Malva Headstrong ]

I'm laughing my butt off at those pictures! Does Sam have the mumps or something?
I would like to rent that movie, but I want to wear a disguise when I do. I reckon the video rental employees might make sport of me.

You know, I think they look better when they....move.
One time I was sick, so I had a desire for cartoons. So my mom and sis got me RotK (I've seen the other two), and three others which wouldn't interest you anyway. And if you're really sick, watch the Goonies: it really helped.
Even though the singing was annoying, I watched RotK twice, wondering how PJ would do it.
Okay, I'll shut up with my nonsense. I really should go to bed. But I don't want to. Mwa ha ha.
~M

Hey!
I havent seen the cartoon movie, but I saw a picture of the breaking of the fellowship scene with Boromir(who, yes, very strongly resembles a viking, and in this particular pic seems to be wearing a mini skirt) protectiong merry and Pip, who seem to be fighting with butter knives. Also i thought they resembled a scooby-doo-animation, they has similar eyes...

Balrogman, they were scary! I did see the Bakshi LotR years ago, but I have never seen the Hobbit or RotK cartoons. Having investigated the pictures, I have to say... AAGH!! Did anyone else notice that Smaug is fat and hairy? And distinctly non-jewelled? Or that Elrond just looks weird? Or that the Mirkwood elves look like little aliens in cavemen outfits?
[ March 15, 2003: Message edited by: Elanor ]

I noticed that too, Elanor. I think that's why Legolas is omitted from the animated RotK; he would've looked like a dork!
