Merry and Pippin
In the movie they kinda made Merry and Pippin stupider than they were in the book. I liked it and thought it was a nice touch to the movie but I was wondering how other people felt about it.

To me they didn't seem stupider than in the book. More silly and comical, but not more stupid.

The made them more mischievous and comical, but definately not stupider. It will be interesting to see them develop into the valiant Hobbits that they became by the end of RotK.

yeah i don't think they're any stupider...just more comical and mischievous as elrian said. i think some comic relief so to speak was needed b/c it was a very intense movie so it helped to have merry and pippin be so comical in it to let people have a chuckle even during the most intense parts. if that makes sense at all lol.

I liked the comic relief-ness of it and they both got some great one-liners, but the reason for them going along in the first place wasn't really established. it looked like they kinda NEEDED Gandalf's words This is a serious journey, not a hobbit-walking party!
at first I was kinda sore about that, but calming down somewhat, I realise that they will indeed "grow up" considerably in TTT.

I think Merry and Pippin's clothes will probably be padded, and they will be made to look a little taller compared to Frodo and Sam, since in the Two Towers, Merry and Pippin are supposed to grow after drinking the Entwash. Also, I think they probably will not joke as much and will have sadder and wiser characters once they have seen the effects of the war with Sauron.

If they had put in the whole conspiracy thing with Merry and pippin and even Sam they would have seemed more serious I think but I like them as comical kind of clowns.
