Pondering on Tû... a prototype?
I’ve always wondered about Tû who was mentioned as “.. the wizard”. But it was also mentioned that he was also “the wizard / fay who became King of the Dark Elves”. He is the same Tû that had become upset with Nuin the Dark Elf when the latter discovered where the Men (who hadn’t awakened yet) were and taught several, perhaps prematurely, speech.
Being in the earlier works of Tolkien... could he have been a prototype Istari, or something more? |

Book of Lost Tales.
Yes, Thalionyulma, I would say you were accurate; Tû does strike me as the foreshadowing of the later wizards. [ September 30, 2002: Message edited by: Rimbaud ]

Hello Rimbaud!
Yes its The Book of Lost Tales. Another thought that entered my mind when I pondered on Tû's character is that he was mentiond to have become the king of the Dark Elves. The Avari/Nandor? Hmmmm... it reminded me of Denethor (of the Nandor) son of Lenwe, who led part of his people to Ossiriand. Or what about Thingol? Of course its interesting to note that it was Melian's magic that protected Doriath. Its curious that one character whom JRRT eventually never again mentioned in the Silmarillion could remind one of other characters. (of course this could be blamed on my over-active imagination!
