Slaves of Mordor
It says in RotK that Suaron's orcs got their food from the slaves near the sea of Nurnen. But where did the slaves come from?

I presume the slaves working around Nurnen would be supplied by the Easterlings and Haradrim, perhaps defeated members of sub-tribes of these warlike peoples. I expect they were supplemented by captives taken in raids on Gondor and its allies, as were the slave rowers of the Galleys of the Corsairs, who seemed glad to join the fight against their former oppressors when liberated by Aragorn. I guess any orcs commiting minor transgressions could also have been used as slaves (those comiting major transgressions would surely have been eaten by their compatriots or sent to Shelob!). I wonder if any captive dwarves or elves were enslaved? Morgoth had certainly enslaved elves during the first age. Plenty of Fanfic/RPG potential!

The word for the smaller type of Orcs meant Slave I do believe.

Not all his servants are slaves. Take saruman, he was meant to be a thane. as were dragons. and he mustve had an understanding with the balrog, what with both being maiar. but id say the less important servants were - well - not servants but slaves!

I think it would be impossible to serve Sauron without eventually becoming his slave. Look at the Ringwraiths. They were mighty Kings of Men, but through the Nine Rings, they were corrupted, and enslaved as wraiths of their former selves. It is impossible to serve a Dark Lord without becoming his slave, I think Saruman learned that the hard way.

When the wild men joined Saruman and Sauron, its possible that maybe not all of them were allowed to join the fighting forces- maybe they were tricked and made into slaves. There are also the thousands of people from all over who were made into slaves by the easterlings of Nurn, when Mordor was being rebuilt I believe, when Sauron returned- there is an RPG in the Shire section about that at the moment. Do try to stay on topic.

Yes I think they come from raids on Gondors borders like Ithilien and such.

They could have been anyone. If you're an increadably powerful Mia, anyone you can defeat becomes a potential slave. We don't know what more southern people Sauron could have subjected, because Tolkien is so Gondorcentric.

Gondorcentric? An interesting word. I think we were not meant to know who all of the peoples of the South were, save the Haradrim, the Easterlings and the general 'swarthy folk' that occupied the lands near and around Nurnen. The knowledge of who all of Sauron's human and orkish slaves were would not add anything to the plot and it lends an aura of mystique to Sauron, enslaving thousands of unheard-of minions.

and even saruman was kind of a slave of sauron, however unbeknowst of by himself. he was tricked and steered through the palantir, and believed he was an ally but sauron rather used him to distract the rohirrim from Gondor. when he wouldn't have any need of saruman any longer, he would have just destroyed him. (or he would make him into something like the mouth, a creature, once proud, that has now become a mindless extension of the dark lord himself)

I don't know if another Maia could be turned into a slave like the Mouth by Sauron.

Actually, Noxomanus, there is reason to believe that a lesser Maia (which Saruman was compared to Sauron) could be enslaved by the Dark Lord, as Tolkien himself put forth the idea that perhaps the Blue Istari were ensnared and enslaved by Sauron when they traveled into the East.

I believe the Rohirrim paid Sauron with horses. They said that at the Council of Elrond. Also, Saruman doesn't seem like Sauron's slave, after all, he sent his own Mordor Orc (Grisnakh) to make sure Saruman didn't take the Ring for himself. At least that's what I think happens.

When pippin looks in the palantir, sauron says to him that'this one is not for Saruman' Sauron wanted to question him, and he kind of ordered saruman (as he thought) to give it to him. without the ring, Sauron could not directly slave Saruman, he could only use him to some (very far) extend. would Sauron get the Ring, saruman would become nothing more than a slave to his will.

Saruman became ensnared by Sauron because he looked into the palantir. I wonder, could Sauron have ensnared Denethor when he looked into the palantir of Minas Tirith?

I don't know about Sauron "ensnaring" Denethor through the palantir. I think what Sauron did was closer to driving him to madness than forcing Denethor to do his will.
I know that Saruman was ensnared because of the palantir, but I am confident he could have otherwise been trapped into servitude of the Dark Lord, whether by promise of bounty and lordship or by fear of the Nazgul and the power of Sauron.

If Saruman hadn't looked into the Orthanc-Stone, if think he would not have served Sauron. He probably would have still hindered the Fellowship, though. The palantir was probably just too much for him.

Slaves of Mordor. Now were not all of the servants, fighters, orcs, ringwraiths, and the mouth of Sauron considered slaves? Surely the definition of slavery would not be far from not having your say, owing complete respect and giving your life to someone.
Sauron surely did not pay his orcs, he merely rewarded them by giving them man-flesh and by lessening the beatings. All of Saurons troups were in his servitude. I don't believe that Saruman was one of his slaves, despite the link the two of them had with the Palantiri, Saruman was himself too powerful to easily bow to Sauron. Saruman stood up to Sauron and tried to get the Ring from out of under his nose by sending his Uruks after the Hobbits. A good representation of the power the slave master Sauron had over his slaves is the surrender and disappearance of all his troups once the Ring was destroyed. The ring was the reason Sauron could keep all of his servants/slaves under his spell.
