Sting Gandalf's Lost Property

I can't find any convincing evidence that Gandalf still had Glamdring after his return, and rescue by Gwaihir from Zirak-Zigil.

We know for certain that he had a staff, because he has it at Edoras. We also know that this is a new staff, since his old one was broken on the Bridge of Khazad-Dűm. We aren't told how he got it.

Also, I can't remember any mention of his pipe after his return, unless maybe it is mentioned in The Quest of Erebor, Unfinished Tales (which I don't think it is).

Is it possible that after his return, Gandalf is closer to his original status as a Maia, and no longer needs either his sword or his smoke?

He had Glamdring at Edoras.

Here at least is my sword, goodman Háma. Keep it well. Glamdring it is called, for the Elves made it long ago.
I don't remember anything about the pipe.

True!

Thanks for that - although it doesn't specifically mention Glamdring, I think it would be fanciful to assume it was another sword.

kind regards,
the platypus with the crimson face (should've thought of looking there!)

Question

Not sure about this, but could it be that Utumno would have given it back to him (or some other Valar for that matter)?

Either that, or Gwaihir picked it up as well.

Utumno the Vala? Did I miss someth--

Oh, probably....

I'd think that Gwaihir picked up everything of Gandalf's that hadn't been burned to a nice crisp and carried it with him to Lórien.

Who would Utumno be? I know its Morgoth's first stronghold, but I don't quite recall it being a person.

Ahhh, I see. But why would Ulmo have given Gandalf Glamdring back? when would he have gotten the chance to get it in the fist place?

When Gandalf and the Balrog fell into the water maybe? No idea i was just trying to think what Valar had a name close to Utumno that Neferchoirwen might of meant.

Well, if you watch the film, Gandalf clearly defies gravity and grabs Glamdring as he hurtles down towards the falling (and ineffectually winged) Balrog ... oops ...
