Wouldn't that have been cool if a hobbit.....
Wouldn't that have been cool if a Hobbit like Pippin or Sam ruled ALL of Middle Earth?
I vote For Pippin

Uhhh, I don't know. Somehow I just can't see it. For one thing ruling the world would require way to much work and leave no time for second breakfast.

Have to agree with Kuruharan on this one; hobbits ruling the world would be like the Peter Principle times about ten thousand. The biggest thing against it as that fundamentally you can't see any of them really WANTING it - their scope just isn't that big - even if their ambition is greedy and limitless in Shire terms, that still would probably extend only as far as Bree. Frodo was stressed out enough being deputy mayor; can't imagine him being able to (or wanting to) rule over anything greater. Sam? Again, he wouldn't want it, the Shire kept him busy enough. The Sackville-Bagginses are about the most ambitious of the bunch in worldly terms, and even they kept their scope small - poor Lotho only got as far as indirect contact with Isengard, and lived to regret it. Merry? Too busy journeying around, adventuring and making a figure of himself in his fantastic new armor . Pippin? As much as I love him, I would not want the guy who dropped the stone in the well of Moria - and looked into the Palantir just to see what would happen - controlling large parts of Earth. And he probably wouldn't either.
It just isn't what they're made for, and a ruling hobbit would probably be the most miserable creature in the world, who would wish it on them? Best to leave it to someone sonorous and reliable like Aragorn or Elrond .

Hmmm. Pippen in charge of Middle Earth. I wonder how that would change him? Well, we know one thing for sure: the Barrow Downs would be overflowing with MUSHROOMS!

I'd like to have Sam as a ruler but as you said he is contented with his job as major. Actually at the Cracks of Doom Frodo considered domination. At least that's what I think. Though that was probably the ring and not Frodo.

There's a huge difference between being a reliable person and being a competent leader. Somehow I think that leadership just doesn't play a big part in hobbit character and/or ability.

There is a 1,ooo,ooo,ooo,ooo,ooo,ooo chance that a hobbit would rule ME. So I posted this topic to see what you think if they did and who you would want. I want Pippin, although people would definitely be a lot fatter

I vote for Pippin too. He probably wouldn't stay in power for very long, but it would be fun while it lasted.

I think that it would be a DANGER if a hobbit ruled ME, especially Pipin, he only thinks about food. Aragorn would be a much better king, he thinks about things before he is doing something.
But if we had to choose between Pipin and Sam, I would choose Sam. [ June 20, 2002: Message edited by: Veritas ]

Yes, in terms with ME's danger and safety so that it will be peaceful...i would choose Sam.
But if for only the sake for FUN, I would definitely choose Pippin. If Pippin ruled ME, he would only be King for a day.

I have to agree with Kalimac.
I think that the Hobbits shining moment was to have the ring in one of the hands of their kin. That does not necessarily make them leader-worthy in terms of being a competent leader. Putting in the limelight if Middle Earth History earns them a spot in its chronicles. A Hobbit that rules would damage their culture.

Birdie steps up to the plate for Hobbits: OK, so maybe Hobbits wouldn't desire to rule Middle Earth, but look at what a great job they did with the Shire:
A postal system second to none. Free education, (for however long anyone wanted it.) Great road system. Possibility that they had indoor plumbing. A helpful and friendly police force. A fair and equitible system of laws. Thriving import/export businesses. Eco-friendly argricultural techniques. OK, so maybe they might not have been up to the task of taking on the Dark Lord single-handedly, but when it comes to the day-to-day working of govenment, I think that a little "hobbit-sense" was just what some of these kingdoms in Middle-Earth needed. |

There.... chubby is the word. Six meals a day will make anyone chubby, especially girl hobbits, Rosa.
It's a scientific fact that women hold more fat than men. Er... A hobbit couldn't rule a staight line, let alone the....

If a hobbit was rulling the world from his (or her) cosy garden, there would definitely be less fuss and more minding everyone's own business

Haha. It wouldn't have been cool, it would have been comical. Much better would be to see Middle-Earth ruled by Legolas and Gimli.

Hmm...a hobbit ruling all of Middle-Earth, interesting... Not sure if that would be the best idea, but still, I'd vote for Merry!

ARE YOU KIDDING? THINK ABOUT HOW MUCH IT WOULD COST!
first of all, new scales would have to be made. those pathetic pre-pippin ones only go up to 21 stones. all doors would have to be widened, as would all archs, cars, lanes... everything! itll cost so much and, of course, dumbells would all be melted as people would just give up on bodybuilding, or even trying to stay fit so, its a nice prospect, but itd cost waaaaaaaaaaaaay too much |

I vote for Sam to rule.
I know this isn't hobbitish, but I'd love to see Bill Ferny in charge. And of course Denethor and I would rule side by side...
