We Have A Critic!

For the second week in a row, Michael Martinez has centered his column around a prominent feature of the Barrow-Downs. It would be nice if he at least would do the kindness of linking folk to the things he critiques! You can find his latest critical essay here: http://www.suite101.com/article.cfm/tolkien/63343A funny thing happened on the way to the canon Summation, in case you don't feel like the effort: "Don't try." This is where the work is getting done: <a href="http://www.barrowdowns.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=8&t=000000Canon Discussions Personally, I think the guy has some interesting observations in his articles, but he must be hard up for materials! These are works in progress, after all. This was his article last week that criticized efforts like mine, kindly hosted here at the Barrow-Downs: http://www.suite101.com/article.cfm/tolkien/63164The Over the Bree-hill gang rides again Summation, in case you don't feel like the effort: "Don't try." You can read the sequel in progress here: http://www.barrowdowns.com/fanfichobbits00.aspThe Hobbits Someone once said that those who can, do. Those who can't, teach. Those who can't teach, become critics... But if you, yourself, ever come under the eye of a critic one day, be sure to read carefully, because you may learn something that will be helpful in making your work better. (I actually typed that with a straight face. )
http://www.barrowdowns.comBarrow-Downs~http://www.geocities.com/robertwgardner2000Bare Bones~http://www.robertwgardner2000/gilthalion.htmlGrand Adventures~http://www.barrowdowns.com/fanfichobbits.aspThe Hobbits~http://www.tolkientrail.comTolkien Trail

At the time of the first Silm canon article , he thought we were sold on an MT version and we hadn't even started a text. And after all it is the only thing of it's kind going on. Lindil is oft found on posting on the Silmarillion Project at the Barrowdowns and working on a new Elven/Christian discussion boardOsanwe-Kenta 'The dwindling Men of the West would often sit up late into the night, and awaken early before dawn- exchanging lore and wisdom such as they possessed , so that they should not fall back into the mean and low estate of those , who never knew or more sadly still, had indeed rebelled against the Light.'

Then in fairness, a little bit of an apology is due him!
...sorry ...
But also in fairness, the tone of each article "set me off" after the second one. Obviously, had the tone been different, the critical points might have been better received. At least by me. I would no doubt have posted great praise with the links. But I did post the links. I really think that is a bit of internetiquette that we should all practice in the online Tolkien community. Everyone is helped thereby.
http://www.barrowdowns.comBarrow-Downs~http://www.geocities.com/robertwgardner2000Bare Bones~http://pub41.ezboard.com/btarostineruhirTar Ost-in-Eruhir~http://www.geocities.com/robertwgard...ilthalion.htmlGrand Adventures~http://www.barrowdowns.com/fanfichobbits.aspThe Hobbits~http://www.tolkientrail.comTolkien Trail
