Descrepencies In Quotes
Hey, I was reading the Two Towers yesterday I was up to the part where Frodo is remembering what Gandalf said. The quote that he remembers is something along the lines of:
...do not be too eager to deal out death in the name of justice in judgement... however Gandalf actually said: ...do not be too eager to deal out death in judgement... there wasn't originally a part about justice. Can someone explain this to me?

Note: it replaces "judgement" with "the name of justice"; there is no "in jusdgement" after "in the name of justice." Interesting observation.

I agree about the mistake in the text.
But I think that Frodo wasn't trying to remeber word-to-word his converstion with Gandalf. He was just recollecting the basic crust of the matter to help him in his decision about Gollum. |
