The Gate of the Noldor is not the entrance to Gondolin. The two elves who showed Tuor this also warned Orodreth against building a bridge over the Narog.

I think you mean Earendil, his ship was Rothinzil in Adunaic, Vingilot in Quenya. Both forms mean Foam-flower.
