Military stratedgy

Anyone notice how things such as military stratedgies( evolution of weaponry ) employed by those in Ea are inline with real stratedgies throught history. Case in point you knoe those defensive circles Aragorn, Imrahil, Eomer, Gandalf, etc took were actually standard practice. For example the Scotts under the direction of William Wallace employed that same tactic when they went up againt Edward Longshanks after their victory at Sterling Bridge.

How the éored of Éomer defeats the Isengarders under Uglśk is the classical rider-charge and circumvention as old as Cannae and mainly the Gothic riders who were able to surprise the Romans often with this this manouevre. The use of the Mūmakil of Harad on the Pelennor is at once both like the use of war elefants in history and like one use of tanks in WWII warfare, the armoured spearhead assault.

I have never heard of a man, dressed in all white, going out and killing people with his bare hands in a snow storm? "Many that live deserve death. And some that die deserve life. Can you give it to them? Then do not be too eager to deal out death in judgement. For even the very wise cannot see all ends."

For that matter, the defensive works that are described throughout the story, and their locations, are matters of strategic importance. Gandalf's grand strategy to distract the Eye of Sauron from Mount Doom, even by great sacrifice before the Black Gates, is a perfect example of tactical misdirection. Using siege engines to hurl desecrated heads into Minas Tirith is a psychological strategy. Hurling fire is another military tactic. Besieging Minas Tirith itself, is a military strategy. Attacking the gates of the town with Grond is a standard sort of tactic.
http://www.barrowdowns.comBarrow-Downs~http://www.geocities.com/robertwgardner2000Bare Bones~http://pub41.ezboard.com/btarostineruhirTar Ost-in-Eruhir~http://www.geocities.com/robertwgard...ilthalion.htmlGrand Adventures~http://www.barrowdowns.com/fanfichobbits.aspThe Hobbits~http://www.tolkientrail.comTolkien Trail

It is probably still on his site, I don`t remember the address offhand. The article was pretty good and may be worth a look for anyone interested in this particular topic.
