1420! Songs of our times that remind you of 'The Hobbit'

I noticed a similar thread regarding LotR, and thought that I might start one about The H.

I'll start by wondering what kind of music the elves of Rivendell might be interested in, judging by what we saw of them towards both the beginning and the end of the book.

I was listening to some of the 1960s songs of Herb Alpert & the Tijuana Brass, and wondered if they might like them. Never mind that some people deride such music as 'easy listening'. Some examples include:

a. Spanish Flea:

b. Tijuana Taxi:

c. A Taste of Honey:

Would Elrond playing a trumpet be appropriate here, particularly in the last song? Would Ulmo, after listening to such songs, beg them to stop?

Almost anything from Jethro Tull's Songs from the Wood.

Leaf Nice!

I've been listening to some songs on the album you recommended, Mithadan:

I can certainly imagine the elves singing them.

Tull! I've said for years that Ian Anderson could write a great score for a Middle-earth film. Songs from the Wood is an excellent album to start with. You might also select "Dun Ringill" from Stormwatch, "Skating Away (on the Thin Ice of a New Day)" from Warchild or "Rover" from Heavy Horses.

Actually, I could rattle off another ten that have a hobbitish sound, but have nothing to do with Tolkien.
