Minas Ithil?
Founding of First At the start it was first in importance of the towers, as the fortress-city of Isildur. maintained of Second It was taken by Sauron and though retaken in the early Third Age, was thereafter second to Minas Anor. Both co-mingled yet hard to see unless First Minas Ithil was captured again by Sauron's forces, and both it and Minas Anor were renamed. The Palantir of Minas Anor was controlled by the Ithil-stone, making it difficult to "see" through the stone. Or perhaps that once the First (Ithil) became the Second (Morgul), moonlight no longer lit the tower at night, and that pallid witch-light that replaced it was not enough to see by? commanded by a Greater Second and a Lesser Second after the war Minas Ithil (Morgul) was commanded by The Witch King, Sauron's second-in-command, before the War of the Ring, and afterward by Faramir, who as the heir of the steward and Prince of Ithilien could logically be considered Aragorn's second. The Witch King is greater than Faramir, as seen when the latter succumbed to the Black Breath. A shot in the dark...or in that weird Morgul light. |

Emyn Arnen, then?
Founding of the first Ithilien Principate, perhaps? Maintaining...the stewardship? Commanded by Faramir (and Beregond, captain of the White Company) Or by Faramir and Eowyn, each a second child... |

Well, that puts one in mind of the Houses of Healing...
Eowyn's stay was founded by the orders of the Master Healer, when she wished to leave, but was later maintained by her own will, though she was pronounced well. Eowyn and Faramir were together often during the latter part of their stay in the Houses of Healing, but could not have visitors without the approval of the Master Healer. ...but that would make the Greater and Lesser Seconds the voices in Eowyn's head... Alack, my reasoning appears to be faulty. Unless of course, you refer to her two mindsets: childish infatuation with Aragorn giving way to love for Faramir? |

Ok there is some logic behind this but it is pretty screwed up so I might ramble a bit.
Last bit first is that I think Greater Second refers to Faramir because he is second in line to being Steward and Lesser Second is Eowyn because she is technically second in line but is from Rohan which is less important than Gondor. Then keeping in with that theme First should be Boromir and second Faramir. I am totally stumped on the co-mingled bit. Actually this is really hard! I'm going to say Osgiliath on the guess that Faramir and Eowyn were left in charge after the war and that Boromir first freed it from the orc invasion and then it was left to Faramir to maintain it.

Revival
He fell ere Gorthaur's realm did fall
The sign he brought was clear to all Though hidden long it did remain A sign of hope for men of Sauron's bane. Who was it? |

Ere means before, remember. It might be easier to think about what the "sign he bore" was first. |

The only person I can think of right now is Aragorn. He had the green stone on his forehead or the banner for 'signs he bore'. He was long hidden as were these two signs but when revealed they brought hope to men. But he did not fall before Sauron so . . . ?

You're on the right track with the signs, but it's not Aragorn.

Was it maybe the man who brought the signs from Galadriel/Arwen to Aragorn? The Dunedain man gave him the banner I know that much. Tell me if this is right and I'll go find his name. The books have to be around here somewhere .
