Merry and Pippin next to all the stars of M-e including Elendil and Aragorn?

Groin, when you are here, perhaps you would like to take a look at the Geography Direction Quiz

Older than Druedain.
Istari don't count as they never descended from anything. They just were there.

Here's a wild stab- the spiders of Mirkwood, descended from Ungoliant?

Ok, that is true, but still wrong.
The spiders of Mirkwood are a good idea, although not old enough.

Hmm...along the same lines, then, how about the long-worms, decendents of dragons?

That isn't older than Telperion I believe... so it can only be wrong.
Look further back!

Ok, that's a good thought, but still not old enough.
Think before Aman, before they went to live over the sea.

It's hard to look to a time without the two trees.
The dwarves? Any chance they were created before Telperion? I don't remember what the book says...

Wait... weren't the Dwarves made after they moved to Aman?
Please correct me if I am wrong there.

Oh! Before they went to Aman! I missed that.
This is hard! I can't think of anyone who came in the period between Aman and the song of the Maiar. And I don't think you can mean the Maiar, because they didn't "descend" from anyone. Unless you mean....erm...someone like the Valaraukar?

I'm wondering... it wasn't some species of tree, was it? Not the Malorn?

Yes, the malorn also are pretty old...
But the thing is for this particular thing... it is said about it that it is said about it to be of this descent Think about the time when they still used to live in Almaren or sometime afterwards...

I think I just realised, when you say 'they' you mean the Valar, and not the 'thing' this puzzle is about.
... thing eh, Are you talking about the Lamps of the Valar, being of the age when the island of Almaren got destroyed by melkor? Or possibly The Children of illuvatar, as all of them could trace their ancestry to the same age and event. or even the inland seas of helcar and rhun? Last edited by Vaine; 01-22-2009 at 01:46 PM. |

Yes, I know - I thought since the Balrogs were a type of Maiar...meh, it was just a terrible guess.

Nope, sorry Vaine. Actually, the idea with the horses previously was not that bad... maybe think in a similar direction.

I have to admit though, I dont think I have ever read about the Kine of Araw myself, having only read the Silm once and not even finished Unfinished Tales yet. Spent alot of time searching the Creature section @ tolkiengateway (Well in a sense, I did read about them, just not in one of Tolkiens books ^^) Anyway, I'm gonna have to wait untill I get home before I can post a new vague description. I have some books to skim through... |
