I don't have a guess for your riddle, but yes it is your turn, Manardariel. Although I am confused... Lathspell posted a riddle? Sorry, I'll just keep quiet in my corner and see if I can figure this one out...

Hannon le, Manardariel!
Behold! the man who brought the legends back to life but of his deeds only few Tales tell 'cause the Creator disowned him and 'twas his destiny to be buried in dust.

The first thing I thought of, and I'm pretty sure I'm on a major sidetrack , was Aelfwine, Tolkien's hero of the Lost Road. the story was never finished and didn't figure significantly into Tolkien's other writings (hence buried in dust), and he was one of the 'heroic' men who could still find the straight path to the West (bringing Legends to life)...

Well, if Sophia is right and the creator refers to Tolkien rather than Eru, than perhaps could it be dear, old, mysterious Tom Bombadil? Of course, it wouldn't surprise me if Annunfuiniel picked someone way out of my league like whoever that person was Sophia guessed.

Yes, it indeed is Aelfwine aka Eriol, "the mariner" or "wayfarer" from the Lost Tales. Sorry it was from such a source only few have read... Well, I haven't finished the books either yet! So, Sophia... What can I say? *bows in awe* You rule!! Please proceed!

Celebrimbor? It sort of fits if you choose to believe that he was the one who made the Elendilmir...

My guess will be Salmar, who made the Ulumiri, the Horns of Ulmo.

Nice job Lathspell , Salmar it is... although Manardariel makes Feanor work nicely...
Craftsman of renown- remembered for his handiwork Shaped in white- the Ulumuri were white That which calls the dreamers to the deep - The horns of Ulmo, the Lord of the Sea I work for one who speaks through sleep- Ulmo spoke to Turgon and Finrod through dreams My creation brings despair, delight- those who heard the Ulumuri desired the sea and were haunted by it Their songs were heard of old- self explanatory. Your go lathspell! Sophia [ April 14, 2003: Message edited by: Sophia the Thunder Mistress ]

Man of great reknown,
and eldest of them all. I lived long, but 'unlived' longer, I nearly became a doll! Good luck, I hope this will be a better one than I've done yet.

The "man of great renown" and "unlived" make me think of the Witch King of Angmar. But he did become a doll, or an action figure at least, didn't he?

Well, I'm going to guess good old Tom Bombadil again. He's always my standby when I'm not sure. Or, could it be Earendil?

Sorry to let you waiting. My internet is down so I can only do this when I'm at a friends home.
The right answer is not yet given. Hint: don't think of unlived as undead.

Treebeard? He's the only 'oldest' I can think of if it's not Tom B. Or what about Durin, or one of the other dwarf fathers?

How about Beor? He was supposed to be the oldest man. He was also known as "The Old" and old nearly becomes doll.

No, still not heard the right answer. Beor was a good thing though, continue like that and the answer may soon come.

My next guess was going to be Beorn, who was *great* and had the ability to change himself into a bear (Teddy-bear/doll/toy ??)

Sorry, not the one I heard... don't think of the words as that. Try to relate 'un-living' and 'a doll', though not as being undead.

Isildur or Anarion? They're certainly renowned, oldest of the Kings of Gondor/Arnor, and as for un-living dolls I'm thinking of the enduring pillars of Argonath, that certainly outlived them.
