You didn't answer my question about the plural, but only then "beaks" makes sense, and I can't see any other word there that would fit.

It is said by Thor(o)ndor, during the Fall of Gondolin. When the escaping Gondolindrim under Glorfindel went through the Eagles' Cleft they were espied by orcs (before the Balrog came). The Eagles came to their help against these orcs.

When the escaping Gondolindrim under Glorfindel went through the Eagles' Cleft they were espied by orcs (before the Balrog came). The Eagles came to their help against these orcs.
