Truth to be told, that moustache looked ludicrous. Good riddance!

Come on! There can't be more news, can there? Well, turns out there can!!
Now back to your regularly scheduled Phalian. Don't forget that if you've lost track of The Phantom and Alien, you can look back though the... PHANTOM AND ALIEN COMIC ARCHIVE THING We've now got a workable cast for the P&A animation! I'm going to put together a story board and take another stab at the script before contacting the actors for the first scene about doing a test! Hopefully, in a week or two, we'll have something we can look at.

The worst thing about Mr. Bliss is that he keeps insisting he's me. I wasn't aware of such failure. He must be... mistaken.

That Craig has been bothering me for some two-hundred years. I can't believe that anyone would doubt our claims that he will die with our hug. My hugs are the squeeziest.

Bring your big eyes to the computer screen and feast your face on some news!
Now back to your regularly scheduled Phalian. Don't forget that if you've lost track of The Phantom and Alien, you can look back though the... PHANTOM AND ALIEN COMIC ARCHIVE THING I meant to work on the P&A script this weekend but I've been a little under the weather. But, I promise to try and get it done this week! Then I can send it back to our cast and we can start working on some test screenings! Won't that be exciting!?

PHANTOM AND ALIEN COMIC ARCHIVE THING Apologies if the archive is a bit screwed up at the moment. I'm going to have to sort it out at some point. In other news, I've redrafted the script for P&A and will soon be sending it off to the cast, and once everyone is happy with it we'll organise a read-through!! Exciting times, people! Exciting times.

I am all caught up again on my Downers.
If Davem burnt all Tolkien books of all Downers, I think that we should rise up against him to revenge our poor lost books! Who's with me?!

Here's some news to fill your blues...
Now back to your regularly scheduled Phalian. Don't forget that if you've lost track of The Phantom and Alien, you can look back though the... PHANTOM AND ALIEN COMIC ARCHIVE THING Right, I think with regards to the P&A animation we can just go ahead with things. So, you guys who are in it, please send me recordings of the new lines and I'll get started on splicing them up for the animation. Legate, you might want to tone your squeakiness down a bit, though.

Oddwen smells like dwarves? Isn't that from the previous paper?
Oh, and btw, I didn't write that article. And also - Oddwen should inclde herself in the list of popular Downers.

I've come to expect a lot more from you, Hook. I was expecting meat, meat, meat, and cement in this week's paper, but there was none of that. I am terribly, terribly disappointed. I'll have my lawyers know about this.

As soon as I find the box I put my tally sheet in, I shall continue my Very Important Project that I totally am not wasting my time on! When I reveal my results, certain people are going Down!
Chocolate is a bean. Beans are vegetables. It's time to make a chocolate pizza salad. And yes, my cloak smells like Dwarves. Can't imagine what they were doing with it, it's too big for them. Wait....ewwwwwwwwwwww. Quote:

It has come to this reader's mind that our esteemed Downer, although renowned far & wide for its investigative and creative journalism, still lacks one vital ingredient of a distinguished newspaper. It has its own comic strip, which has attracted a huge and growing fanbase over the years, but isn't there still something missing? Something something to do with words... something black... white... and chequered...
This reader holds that problems should be solved by those who notice them. He has therefore set to work immediately and is proud to present to you the first installment of the BARROW-DOWNS CROSSWORD PUZZLE! Across 1. Nemesis of 5 down 4. Not the wheel, but the stone 9. Little Carcharoth 13. Not north nor south, but in Volume 3 15. Green rodent, preys on chatters 17. ... was an elven king 18. Princess of 15 across 20. Tolkien's initials 21. Champion of 9 across 23. German word for sausage 26. Didn't kill 9 across (whatever 21 across may say) 28. "The dark fire will not avail you, Flame of ... !" 30. Greek goddess of fan fiction (short) 31. Former foster-father of 1 across, later Soap Pope 32. Numenorean police inspector Down 2. Dwarven city in Finland 3. Czech Downer, Werewolf player (not 16 down, the other one) 5. Awesomest Downer ever 6. Hobbit in Westron 7. Time of day at which 8 downs are most active 8. Mobile home for wights 10. "Ash nazg ..." (to rule them all) 11. 1 across's original given name 12. New dog, former bus driver 14. Lommy's favourite animal 16. Inventor of the 180 19. Mountain of poultry 22. Goblin king, victim of newly invented sport 24. Producer of quality 11 down 25. Jungle cat - electromagnetic radiation = lycanthropic island 27. Original owner of Squatter's abode 29. Werewolf lynched on Day 1 The letters in the green squares, arranged in the correct order, spell out a section of the Downs where no servant of Morgoth dare set his foot. The solution will be revealed next week. The first Downer to PM me with a complete correct solution before then wins a 100% vegetable cement pizza autographed by RoboTolkien himself. With meat. PS. Staff of The Downer are of course hors concours. Sorry.

Incredible! I can't rep you now, Pitch, but you definitely deserve one for this. Brilliant! Gotta do this, too
Edit: Several minutes later - great But I still have a couple of places where it's more or less totally blind spots. Okay, continuing later!

I think I got the section of the Downs! Though only about half the "regular" words...

Well I got that, too - but I am still lacking like five of the letters, and I want to finish that!

It's gonna bother me until I find out the answers! There are some words that I just can't figure out! I think I've scrunitised like the whole Downs in search of them. It's frustrating!

Random: one of the "blank spots" I had there was "Dwarven city in Finland". Okay, I haven't really stopped to think about that; when I could not think of the answer immediately, I just brushed it aside with "I'll return to it when I actually start solving the problematic ones". Of course now it suddenly totally randomly dawned upon me what is the answer. I think somebody should beat me with a shovel or something. How stupid can one be? *facepalm*

But yes, well. Let's maybe stop this before we spoil the sport for the others

But yes, no thinking aloud, please. If you wish to speculate, compare notes or vent your confusion, take it to PMs. (And no, I'm not giving any hints.)

Pitch, I must say I am disappointed. Number 5 is all wrong. (Yes, I still need five letters too. Grumble grumble. Edit: No, four! Ha!)

So I've been hanging on Skype with Legate (and Pitch, except he hasn't been very helpful ) for hours trying to decipher it, and I still have one to go! Grr!

Rather making a studious effort not to be helpful. It's a great exercise in self control. (But it's highly entertaining to hear you people think.)

The most annoying thing is that I know what the remaining letters are, and can even make an educated guess as to which one's in which word. But I still don't have the words! Though it must be different words that yours...

I just came up with an alternative approach to the one I don't have, but it carries me only so far. I still have to guess the rest of the word... assuming I'm on the right tracks, which I'm not all that certain about.
