All right, Lind? Hello? You there? Should someone just carry on, since she doesn't seem to be coming back to this thread?

I don't know what the date was that Lind posted last, but I sent a little reminder anyway.

Rats! I hate it when I forget a thread. Sorry about the delay.
Hmmm this is going to be easy so I'll word it a bit strangely, just to see if I can mess you up on an easy one. In which battle did a guy in a boat smash mountains with a lizard? [ July 05, 2003: Message edited by: Lindolirian ]

The War of Wrath. Earendil = 'guy in a boat', Ancalagon = 'lizard', Thangorodrim/Angband = 'mountains'.

As far as I know, you got it, Sophia. As usual. He probably fought in a few more as Thorongil, but we don't know much about them.
Give us an easy one for Dior to answer, perhaps? |

Just because I havn't been here in a year doesn't mean I've forgotten all my Tolkien lore...
But an easy one would be nice.

Ok, since she's not coming back...
Give me all the strategic maneuvers of the Battle of the Pellanor Fields made by either side. (i.e. The Rohirrim advanced in three companies from the north....)

I know that it's your thread n'all Dior, but Sophia has 10 days from confirmation of her correct answer to ask a new question - see the Quiz Room Rules.
Since Sophia is a regular poster in this forum, she is likely to post a new question soon. If she hasn't done so by 18 July, then you may proceed.

Just to check, is this supposed to be a trick question? Because in the film he was killed before they got there? Only in the book he was at the battle... Or is it a trick because we don't know? There might be a hundred Hama's!

LOL... this is not a trick question. To clarify though, I mean the place Helm's Deep, not necessarily the Battle of the Hornburg.

Well, then I say...none because he died in the caves (?). You'd think in a house with 4 copies of TTT I'd be able to find one? But no, we've leant them all out. So that is a wild guess from having read it 6 months ago.

It's two because the first one was somehow related to King Helm Hammerhand (his first-born son I think), and the second one was Hama, the Doorward of King Theoden.

Lucky guess...
After Arnor's war against the Witch King was over, and the northern kingdom lost, Gondor finally sent an army to rid the north of the Nazgul and their kingdom. A decisive battle was fought to accomplish this. My question is, what was Gondor's army comprised of, and how was the battle won?

It was comprised of cavalry, led by Earnur, the Crown Prince. They won the battle because, at a crucial time, Glorfindel of Rivendell came up with a force, and the army of the Witch-king was caught between the Elves from Rivendell, the Gondorians, and the remnant of the Dunedain who managed to pull themselves together and fight.

I suppose I'll give it to you, but it's not entirely correct...
The army of Gondor actually had more infantry than cavalry, but the cavalry was the decicive factor in the battle. It says that the infantry was winning the battle already when the cavalry came down upon the flank of the Witch Kings army, which made it a rout. Glorfindel did contribute, but it was mostly the cavalry of Gondor that made the battle so decisive.

Lord of Angmar, you should wait until your answer has been confirmed as correct before asking the next question (see the Quiz Room rules.)
So please wait until Finwe has confirmed whether or not your answer to her question is correct before proceeding. If she hasn't confirmed within a day or so, then you can always PM her.
