I have a thing for Maiar. One day, I found fanfiction.net and I wanted to review and write pieces on the site, I needed a name, and I stubbled across my copy of "Unfinished Tales". I took a look in the back and saw Pallando. I was curious of who he was so I looked at the pages his name appeared in. He was a Istari, the 4th or 5th, his color was blue, and he and his best friend Alatar traveled to the East with Saruman, but the two didn't return. So, a mysterious character, who's a Maiar AND a Wizard, color blue, and hasn't been heard of? I liked the idea. Anything could have happened to him. My guess is that he was put out of the picture by a spell (possably sleeping) and was buried so no one would find him. Blue's my favorite color and I grew to like the Ithryn Luin, so I picked that name.

My first name is obviously Daniel, which I like very much, but I also like Aragorn very much. And since someone had probably already taken every Aragorn related name, I combined his last name with my first name and got a unique combination.

I am Ithaeliel because I made up that name in a very long fanfiction that I'm writing and I liked it better than "Mirwen" (the other female in the story)which is a bit too simple for me, seeing as everyone else who is an elf on the forum has these big, lavish nicknames . So that's where I got my name. And I didn't even find a translation till a couple of months ago. It means The Laughing Lady of the Far Moon or something of the sort.

My nickname is just some Sindarin words... (Uial=twilight; elleth=elf maiden) My real nicknames, in real life, are much stranger... I have so many in real life. To many to list, but if you really want to know them, just private message me.

Mine is just what the name generator came up with for my first name. I liked the sound of Lhunbelethiel, though so it worked.

Two reasons for my nickname - Varda.
1) The elven name the generator gave me was Vardathangiel. Shorten this and you get Varda. 2) Varda Elentari - One of the Queens of the Valar, Queen of Stars. I love stars. I love Valinor. End of story. ~~*Varda Elentari*~~

I don't know why I took this one, it means truth in Latin. It was because I didn't knew something else and because I really hate lying.
But on chat I got another name, Laurefin, and that means golden hair in Quenya.

Hmm. The explanation behind my name is this: I wanted something original and Elvish, and Remmirath is the Elvish name for the stars today known as the Pleiades. (Also known as the Netted Stars)

I think my name is self explanatory. Feanor is my favorite character, and I decided upon the literal version of Feanaro (Spirit of Fire) because it applies well enough to myself. In brief, I love Feanor's contribution to history: the crafting of the Silmarils, which set up the rebellion of the Noldor and the major wars of the first age, as well as the Feanorian script. He is named the greatest of the Noldor in the Silmarillion. He dared to defy the Valar, and was such a gifted speaker that he convinced a vast amount of the Noldor to join him on his war of vengence. Such was his wrath that he fought against a multitude of balrogs until being smitten finally by their lord Gothmog. Although considered an evil character by some, Feanor is undoubtedly my favorite persona in the books. That should well enough explain why I chose this name.

As everyone knows I'm rather boring. My name is my own 'Auriel' pronounced Ow-ree-ell but I've heard it said or-ree-ul (yeuk) and is welsh for gallery and latin for golden. Haevasawen was made on the name generator on the day I 'died'.

Hi!
My name is actually Morimá, not Morima . It is Quenya and mean 'Blackhand' (not 'blackhanded' as Treebeard says; that is 'morimaitë'). The Morimá caracter is actually a fair-haired calaquendi, very kind and very protective to her dearest sister Silima, and she's living by the sea outside Alqualondë in Valinor, where she has lived her entire life - which indeed is a considerable amount of time. Morimá loves gardening and botany, trees especially, she has a huge, beautiful garden where she has collected lots of rare trees. As you might have precieved, she is quite a nice and sympathetic caracter too, which most elves usually are . The reason for her name Morimá comes from a specific event; Morimá is really not her actual name. About the year 3010 (that's some nine years before the fall of Sauron), she went to Middle-Earth to visit the Noldor there; also in some botany-purpose, perhaps she found the mallorn-trees interesting. Anyhows, she didn't get further than Rivendell, after this something unknown-but-terrible happened to her, and she didn't get her memory back until a year later, back in Valinor, where she was told that the Wood Elves of Mirkwood had found her uncounscious in the southern parts of the woods, near Dol Guldur - where she was dressed up in black robes with the red eye painted on - and someone had also cut off her long rich hair... Creepy or what? Well, this is not it. Back at home in the Blessed Realm, Morimá soon discovered that the mysterious year erased from her memory had left her some horrifying magical powers. When she touced someone with her bare hands, she seemed to inflict serious bad luck on them, in the manner that they (if they were lucky) got something hard in the head the next day, or (usually) got killed during the next week. And indeed, Valar and Maiar were able to see that her hands shone with a faint blue light at the moment she touched someone, and her magic was undoubtedly evil. After disvocering this, Morimá started to wear thin black gloves, which she never removed with other people present. She stayed more and more by herself, since everybody seemed to fear her, which she of course understood perfectly. Everybody - but her sister Silima, a young and lively elf with unusual ravenblack hair - and there's a lot to say about her as well, mind you, but that's quite another story... Anyways, that's the origin of the name and further the caracter Morimá. Actually, she came as a result of the Silima-story, which is a 50p-comic I'm doing. (The quotes in my sig is from this comic (called 'The Sick Story'), except the one with Martha ) But luckily things end up good for Morimá in the end - ...But that's the happenings after the storyline of The Sick Story Phew this was quite a book, really. When I get started with this I just don't stop... |

My name I got from the Encyclopedia of Arda. I wanted an Elvish name, but mostly everything was taken, so I just went through every letter looking at the names, and seeing which names I liked. I found Lothiriel and liked it, then added the Silmarien because I liked that too. Silmarian, I think it's really Tar-Silmarian....I forgot, but she was Numenorean, mostly everyone knows that (and especially if it was TAR-Silmarian) And wasn't Lothiriel the name of Eomer's wife? I don't know....kinda forgot..oh well!

Mine is from the name-generator. What a marvelous invention! I didn't get anything quite as cool as "Akhrarz The Testy" or "Varin Lightningshield". I chose the Hobbit name because I am more Hobbitish than Elvish or Dwarvish.
Is there a thread for all the wonderful names people have gotten from the generator?

Aosama, the Wandering Star is a character in a book I'm writing. Her name, comes from the words 'aos' and 'ama', literally 'least-loved', in a language I made up. "Wandering Star" is a nickname. She is a person of myth to the active members of the story. I like her, I don't know why. But it sounds cool, and vaguely Tolkien-ish.

Stone of vision:
A friend of mine asked me one day which characters of the book i could identify myself. I answered, none of them or all of them. They were too passionate to handle, so if i would be part of that fabulous world i choose to be anything else even a "thing" but a character, because what i'm a good at is witnessing and ponder the swing of life and its meaning. But first of all i wanted to SEE and keep on having this world in my vision. Stone of vision was quite approriate being a perpetuel stone which can see. I like thinking of me as a palantir and being Feanor's creation doesn't displease me either. He made me very well after all.... Ps Sil is my original nickname but people tend to confuse it with the Silmarillion...so SOV remains me

Well, I am not nearly as cool as most of you guys! I don't know Elvish, let alone all the different dialecs I've been seeing!
I'm very hobbit-like, and I just made up "Brionna," thinking that it sounded appropriate for a hobbit maid. |

Auriel is your real name? Ooh. I like it. Sigh. You have a name that's unique, unlike me, who went to school with like four other "Staceys"....(actually, they all spelled their names without the 'e', which to me looked like "Stac-ky"....) but I digress.
There are a lot of new folks here, lately, please tell us why your screennames are your names... Quote:

i have no clue as to what my name means-i made it up. a friend recently told me it meant sad/gloomy, which doesn't really make much sense. i'm thinking of changing it to The Fireblade-perhaps not the most original, and unfortunately not elvish, but it suits me.
